Someone other than Dozer explain to me how the money works. I don’t think anybody with an NTC agrees to go there but he and I are starting to sound like a Monty Python skit

If Arizona offers extensions as part of the deal I could see guys like that waving it

Did you want the 5 minute or the full half hour argument?

A guy like Kerfoot who’s contract is up after this year meaning his next contract starts at the age of 29 and Holl who is already 30 and will be 31 by the end of his contract this year won’t exactly be the most craved UFAs in the league.

Average NHL age is now 27 and those two are reasonable players but aren’t even close to being stars so they’ll be lucky to land pretty much anything decent. Doubt either of them makes what they currently make ever again.

I think any truly significant moves will happen at the deadline at this point. Having said that, a move that rocks the hockey world to its very foundations could happen right in the middle of this sentence I am writing. Z5

Maybe but I don’t see why they’d offer an extension to Kerfoot. What they want are the picks, prospects and young roster players. What they’d accept are other players to make the deal work. Kerfoot is better off going into free agency as a Leaf playing with better players and racking up more points than he would in Arizona. I also think playing and practicing in poopty facilities is a real issue.

Tbh until the cap restriction when it comes to rising up in what? A couple more years I doubt we’ll see too many big moves.

A couple sure, like The Blackhawks selling for picks and prospects to a team who can afford the salaries. Otherwise without huge long term injuries I can’t see much happening.

I very much like Sandin and don't want to trade him (hurry up and sign ), but I make that trade pretty easily. That's just how good Chychrun is.

Sandin around Dermott level contract would be excellent but so is a Norris level D-man at $4.6M for another few seasons.

Kerfoot, Sandin, 1st

Yeet Holl out into space...you could even bury him in the minors and that savings should be enough, unless he's claimed of course.

$3.75 + Sandin's ~$1.5 + Holl $2M = $7.25M

Chychrun = $4.6M cap hit.

They still have to make the cap minimum so it can’t be nothing more than a bunch of cheap guys for Arizona

Also Kerfoot has only been able to block 10 teams so if the leafs need cap space and choose to move him cheaply it doesn’t necessarily mean it will be to a playoff bound team.

So yeah, maybe he would consider it if the deal gave him extended years in the league at a reasonable amount.

Does Kerfoot have a no trade clause, too? I honestly don't remember.

Wo! Chychrun is not Norris level. The guy only got more than 30 points once, never has played even 70 games in his first 7 years, and he has yet to prove himself defensively… I’m sorry but you can only blame the rest of the coyotes so much… he was -20 last year

The leafs need steady D, not yet another guy with an offensive upside. Rielly is primarily offensive, Liljegren was actually on pace for more points than Sandin who is also primarily offensive (if they both played 82 games last year) and even Giordano was on pace for 49 points during his time with the leafs.

The d-man they need would be a primarily defensive guy who would upgrade Holl’s style.

Modified starting this year… there’s 10 teams they “technically” can’t move him to

Serious, though. Leafs lead the entire world in players getting claimed. Since the other teams think they're "sticking it to the Leafs". So I can actually see some team claim him thinking they're hurting the Leafs.

He finished 10th in voting 2 years ago and that was insulting to how incredible his season was.

Healthy Chychrun is absolutely in the conversation. (Not that it matters, since it'll be Makar's award for the next decade )

Chychrun is crazy underrated being in Arizona. He can and does play good defense.
