Was interesting to read that Willy had headaches last yr and gong to the shaded visor.
The competition for the bottom 6 without Spezz this yr is way more wide open that I thought. Wonder if the team opts for more speed or size on lines 3 & 4.

Yeah last year it felt the bottom 6 was pretty well locked in but I feel even Simmonds has to fight for his spot. Maybe only Kampf is the guarantee with Engvall when he's back but otherwise it's open.
Where did you read that part about Willy? - bryant
Either SN article or and I think Leafers twitterverse one of the guys whose tweets I seem to see alot of about Leafers... there are so many of them... I'll try and find it.. I was so surprised to read it.. that it caught my eye.

By Luke Fox yesterday..
William Nylander switched to a tinted visor because he was getting eye migraines last season. So far it’s helping. - dozerD10
I thought Willie was the best player from either team from either game. He looked like he wanted to help the Malgun make the team and the wee Swiss boy had a pretty good game. Samsonov was solid. It was pretty funny to see Matthews act like Hyman to set up Jarnrok who seemed pretty comfortable and looked like he kept finding Auston’s scoring spot on the ice.
Steeves was solid. ZAR did ZAR stuff and I thought Minten played ok. Cliffy may be on his way to replace Clune
I hope Muzzin recovers and Sandin signs soon or they bring in another RD cause Benn/Mete scare me

If you could combine Benn's Toughness with Mete speed well then you'd have what you wanted in a 4-6 guy.. but each has the exact opposite of what the other needs...
Still think with the excess D Flames have and excess F Leafers have.. they could make a deal to help each other.

Muzzin will recover and Sandin will sign before the season starts.

I was out doing parent stuff and missed the afternoon game, but I caught most of the evening game. I heard very positive things about Malgin and Nylander. Samsonov looked excellent to me.
The funny thing about your comment regarding Clifford - when they signed him to a 2 year deal, it was so curious I looked to see if Clune's deal expired and if he had said he was planning on retiring or not (at the time he had not publicly done so at any rate) - but it struck me that Clifford was going to be the Clune replacement as well.
In the late game, the things I noticed was more the guys who stood out as not being ready: Villeneuve, Kokkonen, SDA, whatever a Slaggert is (I had to look that up to get the name with the Jersey #) . . . it is the first preseason game, so there's lots of room for improvement, but previously on paper I'd thought higher of both Villeneuve and Kokkonen from their scouting reports, but personally I'm not sure they demonstrated the type skating and skill that are on the path to the NHL.

None of the “they’re not making the team guys” made you say “wait a second”. I liked Kral and a few others did ok but aren’t making the team.
Some bubble guys like Steeves and the Malgun had good games. Others like Cliff, Simmonds and Robertson didn’t. I don’t know if ZAR is a bubble guy but I’m pretty sure he’s making the team.
Of the three guys who got a look on the top six, Jarnrok and the Malgun looked like they could maybe, possibly, have a maybe, possible shot there. Gaudette was a little less effective.
I thought the PTO goalie, Ferguson in the first game had a good period. The guy in the second game, less so
