Chara is a first ballot HOFer. Great player for a very long time.

I think Chara should be in the HHOF, but not for the hardware. Heck, Drew Doughty can post a better resume for hardware, but he's not a HHOFer. But Chara just had such a presence on the ice that set him apart from a lot of others.

I'm not sure if he's a first ballot HHOFer based on who else may be up (Jagr, Thornton, Price, Keith, maybe Mogilny finally), but he will get in for sure.

Doughty will be in once he retires. Which will be a while still. Chara will be in first ballot. Price won’t be up for a while either because there is no way he’s retiring and leaving 40 mil on the table. He will be ltir for the next few years.

Hypothetical here. Let's say Raty , Dufour or another kid out plays Bailey in preseason. Islanders let Bailey stay on roster . He plays until his 1000 game. Plays horrible in those games. Lou and Lane decide to bring up kid and send Bailey to BPT. He clears waivers and goes there. Does anyone know how that effects the salary cap. I'm just wondering with a little hopeful thinking thrown in.

Bailey's cap hit in the minors would be $3.875M, so they'd save $1.125M

Also that's not ever going to happen

Great player and is a HHOF player for sure.
Unfortunately for Ben this retirement will probably cost him Half the typical hits he gets on his Islander blogs.

I know it's not going to happen , thats what hypothetical means. I just wanted to know what the cap situation would be. Is there a % or something? And thank you for answering.

Oh no, these 2 will be in BP for years. Thomson and the Islanders can’t develops prospects especially forwards. Let’s face it . I’m still pissed at how they ruined a world class talent like Ho Sang. Just terrible. I think he’s developed into a first line center in a Mens league in Japan and is leading the league in points and PP points. Man, how we could use his talent on our team now!
Regrettably, Lou and the Islanders staff will play veterans even if there are rookies or prospects who are playing better and can give the team a better chance of winning.

It's a fixed amount of the league minimum plus $375,000. Or the player's full salary if it's less than that amount.

Interesting tidbit from Barzal on defensive structure.

Mathew Barzal, speaking at the NHL media tour in Las Vegas earlier this week, also figures that the overall philosophy won’t change under Lambert.

“Our team is built on a defensive culture. We’ve had success with that,” Barzal said. “Now, it’s just finding a balance of maybe a little more offense but still having that defensive mindset. Just know that defensive structure that’s going to win you games, that backbone.

“Barry did an amazing job with our team the last few years just installing what he likes to call that layered defense. Lane’s great, Lane obviously was a player, so he understands the game and the ups and downs. I think it’s going to be good. Barry was great for our team and having Lane as an assistant, he had lots of say, as well. As a group we all have a good relationship with him so I think it will be an easy transition for our team.”
