Romanov gets a 1st (13th overall)

I think Sandin would get a pretty good return, if the Leafs actually wanted to trade him.

It's already been decided he'll only gonna bring back a 4th.

I have a hard time seeing him traded.

Been back and forth about it but the Leafs have some aging D...They need Lily and Sandin.

He will sign.

I'd talk to the Rangers about their hold out Lundkvist to see if there could be something there

I agree. I think the last thing Dubas wants is to trade his first ever drafted player. He'll do everything to keep him around long term.

Starting his fifth pro year and still isn’t a NHL regular.

Not sure why some of you guys think he’s worth more than a mid round pick right now. The leafs didn’t even want to rely on him as top 6 this year.

But yeah, I’m sure another GM would happily hand out a top prospect or pick for a guy like that.

Could he become a good d man? Yes. But not anytime soon with the leafs.

There is no way you are this clueless. You are just being a drama queen.

I will spell it out for you if you truly have no idea.

Sandin was a first round draft pic. He has excelled in every league he has been in. He was named the top defensemen at the WJC. He had 43 points in 65 AHL games and was named to the all-rookie team. He already has 28 points in 88 NHL games so far. He just turned 22. Most defensemen don't make an impact in the NHL until 23-24. He was essentially a regular last year in the NHL before injuries. He most likely will be a regular this year as well, but likely would have to move to his off-side, which is not ideal for a young defensemen. He has the potential to be a very good NHL defensemen. I would bet money he will become a yearly 30-40 point defensemen. He is not the fastest skater(actually a little slow to be honest) but he has great edge work and is very sturdy on his skates(Ask Blake Wheeler) and makes a great first pass. He could become a Rielly-light. Not as fast of a skater obviously, so won't be rushing it like Rielly, but a great puck moving defensemen with offensive skills. Remember, Rielly was pretty bad defensively for years as he matured(and still isn't great)

Now stop being a drama queen about him. He is exactly where he should be development-wise. Your 4th round pick comment was just stupid and I think you know it, you just want to be stubborn.

A: stop insulting people who do not share your opinion because that is worthy of a ban

B: if he’s reliable then why is he the 7th guy now? Why is he entering his 5th pro career without a stable NHL job? Why are the leafs literally okay with him not playing that much for the next two years?

All I’m saying is that they do not see him worthy of playing on a cup contender. He’ll also never be a top 4 under Keefe since that would mean bumping Rielly or becoming primarily defensive for the second pairing (which will never happen with Sandin)

Do I think this kid has a future? Yes. Not seeing it on the leafs anymore tho.

Also, a mid first rounder 5 years into his pro career without locking an NHL role is simply not worth much in today’s market which plays a role as much as the player himself does with his talent.

The only kind of team who would happily lean on him right now is one who is rebuilding. Problem is they’ll never give up top picks or prospects in deals.. just the vets they want to move on from. Which the leafs don’t want.

Hence why I’m thinking that the leafs are simply waiting to see if they get an injury where they’ll need him or another team does which would make them pay a higher price.

I agree he’s probably worth more than a 4th - but your assessment of him as a dman is not on point.

He will never be Rielly lite. In fact saying a player is another and adding ‘lite’ is nonsensical.

He is undersized and slow. Bad combo…that was a good hit that one time though for sure.

He’s awful in his own zone thinking/positioning off cycle plays. Loses him man in coverage constantly. He defends well off the rush.

He’s not a good first pass dman at all yet. In fact it’s one of his weaker parts of his game that makes him unreliable. Very Jake Gardiner. Gardiner lite? He makes poor decisions with the puck still. Can he get better - absolutely. Is he likely to get better - absolutely.

His development is not where it should be at this point. Who knows why - could be injuries but regardless he’s a bit behind for a dman that was drafters 1st rd. He would not have been a regular at all last season regardless of injury. When healthy Keefe say him multiple times.

He has offensive upside for sure. There’s no doubt that will be his bread and jam. Rielly was never that bad defensively.

I too would bet that you’re right and he has a good chance of putting up 30-40pts a season as a dman down the road. Problem is Leafs are win now. They’ve failed in this for 3 years in my opinion. Losing him as a young dman isn’t ideal but he is behind Liljegren in my opinion and he’s a left shot dman. Switching a young player to his off side when he already has reading and reacting issues is not a smart move.

trade the mf already

me think Dubas say: sign the contract or see you next season ... maybe

more Dubas waits to sign him the more cap wise it will cost him.

now me thinks it time to enhance my evening.
