I certainly don't think it can be looked at as a bargain deal

After looking at the coin given to comparable forwards (and more than a few lesser), I cannot in any way view RNH’s contract as anything but a bargain. Especially as he opted to sign and stay rather than testing free agency.

Good blog by the way. 👍

I think everyone knew/knows that he might not been worth his AAV the last few years of his contract. But, until this team stops forgetting how to hockey as soon as he isn't in the line-up, he is well worth what he is being paid IMO.

RNH has a great contract very much moveable to a playoff contending team.

Hes a hard guy to compare value with as he can be a 2nd to 1st line winger, second line center, 3rd line center, PK and PP winger. That alone speaks to his value as he can be a crescent wrench on the team. But if the oilers were to find the right wingers to run a mcd and Drai 1-2 line combo consistently, paying him +5 mil to be a 3rd line center becomes rich. 23 of his points last year were on the PP and i think many player would see bumps in production being the 5th guy on the 1st line pp.
I think its decent value that other teams would love, but I can see an outcome where he may turn into a Foegele contract where its too much for the position hes filling. Ironically Foegele had 26 pts last year, 3 were on the PP.

It was a bogus claim anyways, I read some of the "supposed" texts he sent her and no way a 55 year old billionaire writes texts like a (frank)ing millennial

At the end of the day the X Factor in all of this is how much everyone likes Ryan. The fans, his teammates, the coaching staff, everyone. This is a great guy to have around and more importantly, is a guy who clearly wants to stay and retire as an Edmonton Oiler.
Sorry but there are no fancy stats to measure the value of this so it doesn't count. James Tanner and HB77 both said so.

I guess that’s the equivalent of saying so and so isn’t worth the money because I think he’s a goof.

Yeah, and you'd think he'd be a little more discreet.

Seemed like a non-issue right from the beginning to me. The girl never made any claims of wrong doing, it is her dance instructor and his wife that are trying to deflect from the fact that they assaulted a bunch of teens.

No, the RNH contract is not an issue for the Oilers at all.

I'd say the only real concerning contracts the Oilers have right now are Nurse's and Campbell's, obviously contracts to Hyman and Nuge might not age well but that's a few years down the road.

Going to be really interesting to see how Campbell does in Edmonton.

St.Louis won the cup with a $5M 3C and a 4th line winger making almost $6M in Steen, Tampa won two cups with a $5M 3C and had Tyler Johnson on their 4th line making $5M, if it works it works and teams have won with guys making decent sized cap hits throughout their lineup.

I think the crescent wrench ability of the Nuge as you put it makes him pretty invaluable, his ability to slide in at 2C if one of McDavid or Draisaitl gets injured makes RNH a huge asset to have, injury insurance is invaluable to have on the roster, not many teams have a backup 2C of RNH's caliber.

His contract will likely be burdensome at some point but probably not for like 4 years at least and by then the cap has likely gone up a bit and so many other things change with a roster or with where a teams at its likely not too much of an issue then either.
