Kevin, you might want to edit your article. You once again claim that Huberdeau and Gaudreau are almost exactly 1 year apart in age. Not sure where you are getting that from. Huberdeau just turned 29 in June. Gaudreau will turn 29 next weekend. These two people are not 1 year apart in age. It's 2 months difference.

As for Phil Kessel...maybe dig a little deeper beyond his point total. Kessel played almost 17 minutes a night and was on the top PP. How many other teams would play him in that role? For example, Edmonton was rumoured. McDavid, Draisitl, RNH, Kane/Hyman, Bouchard/Barrie. Those guys play every PP. There is no second unit. There is no spot for Kessel on the PP. He was also -24 last season, worst on the entire Coyotes roster. So you likely don't want him in your top 6 as a defensive liability with no footspeed. So he'd slot in on a 3rd line with occasional PP minutes. Same situation in Tampa, Pittsburgh, etc...Would also add he only scored 8 goals last year. He's too slow to beat guys wide and get his shot off anymore. If he joined an actual contender he'd eventually end up as a healthy scratch...not good enough for top 6, wrong skills for bottom 6. He'll join another bad team, put up some points, and fool more people...

Huberdeau and Weeger are not in the same class, I wouldn't rush to sign Weeger to an extension as Calgary already has a great defense. I would let a Hungry Weeger play out his contract and see how it plays out.

The age thing is really important. Not sure why but folks somehow want to promote the Gaudreau contract as a positive and the Huberdeau contract as problematic.
As you noted, there is a 60 day age difference in the two players.

Huberdeau is an outstanding fluid skater. Gaudreau is not a particularly strong skater but has great hands, vision and ice awareness. Because of the superior skating, Huberdeau's game will continue at the elite level for several beyond Gaudreau.

Pretty sure he has led the league in breakaways the past few years, if that isn't an elite skater, I don't know how you define it. He might not power through guys with his stride, he doesn't have to, he just skates around them and keeps going.... check this out:

Lou makes everything complicated. And he’s spent the last two years just trying to get out of the stupid contracts that he gives out. And the contract that he should 100% be dumping (Varly) is the one he insists on keeping. The one guy who makes 5,000,000+ on this team that he could actually get something for. Everything about Lou Lamoriello is an exercise in stupidity

Fast is not fluid. There are many fast skaters who are not necessarily strong technical skaters. Pavelski is a remarkable skater, no flaw in his stride. Patrick Marleau was close to the best. Huberdeau is a really strong technical skater. Close to figure skating good. He will play at an elite level for a long time. Gaudreau, perhaps not so long.

One man does not make a team. It depends on how Huberdeau develops chemistry with Lindholm. Calgary has a very good first line, after that, nut and honey.

Kane and Toews will each make 10.5 this year, so your list is incomplete.

Hey, he wrote 27 times (unofficial count) last year that the Avs would trade for Fleury no matter how dumb that was, do you think he's going to stop at just 2 saying that Huberdeau is almost a year older that Gaudreau? I mean, Huberdeau is actually a little bit older, isn't that close enough for you? It's not like this is these guys' full time profession, right? Right?? Fleury did look awesome rocking that baseball cap and working the gate in the playoffs again though.

I think Calgary at the very least semi recouped what they lost. Fortunate for them they lost two great players and managed to get back one while locking him up. It could’ve been worse. They still have a pretty deep defense and decent goaltending. They’ll manage to stay competitive imo.

Dont discard the 2022/23 CAP savings Calgary also realised from all this.
JG 9.75 + MT 9.5 = 19.25 million
JH 5.9 + MW 3.25 = 9.15 million

9.10 million saved in the CAP era is HUGE!

Cool stuff dude thanks for the insight. Kessel has no more relevance.
