Conor Garland would be a nice fit in New Jersey.

Thank god NJ didn’t trade for Tkachuk!!! That means the asking price was one of Jack/Nico ((frank) off already), one of Luke Hughes or Nemec, and a 1st.

I would’ve been furious if Fitzy gave up all that. Luckily we have an intelligent GM guiding this team. There’s still plenty of trade opportunities. At least 5-6 teams are over the cap right now. I’d also be ok with giving our young guys the chance to grow with the big club.

I don't think it would have meant that, Calgary probably would have looked for a different type of deal with the devil's

With Florida they got 2 players they can trade for more good assets 1st + for Huber) and weager will bring in assets if the don't sign.

As for the devil's they don't have room to add players without making moves. Bratt will take up most of the cap space and still have wood to sign too

Scott Wheeler released his updated top 50 drafted NHL prospects. The Devils have 3 on the list:

Luke Hughes at #2, Simon Nemec at #4, and Alex Holtz at #17.

based on what? we saw Calgary clearly isn't interested in rebuilding. they most certainly asked for something on that level. they most likely asked St Louis and every other team for the same. we saw what they took from florida. the reason it didn't work with NJ is b/c Fitzy isn't stupid enough to give up that many assets.

Who did they have at 1? Slaf? I saw wright was #3

I wonder if recency bias may be a factor?

Surprised Nemec was at 4 but happy that he is ranked high

Hopefully Holtz will step up

Well there is no way to tell for sure, really either way.

The option they went with gives them flexibility and time.

They got back very good players but both are on expiring contracts. So if they can't sign them they know they will get assets for them.

If they had multiple years left on their contract I would agree but they don't so they may have realized that they have a team that even though lost JG and now MT that they don't have a totally terrible team that will be tanking but don't have a contending team so will put the best they can and if they are out of the playoff picture have very good trade chips to use.

Power at 1.

Definitely hoping to see Holtz take a big step this year. Seems like he bulked up a ton, but his skating is still the issue. If he isn't playing in the top 6 here alongside Jack or Nico then I don't want him on the team. It's gotta be either top here 6 or top line in Utica again.

Remarkable that this team is struggling to nail down a PA Announcer (and play by play man). Hope this goes better then expected.

As for the Tkachuk, I don't think we could (or should) have matched what Florida did. That's why when adding in free agency is more enticing...

IMO, the Devils just need one top 6 winger to have a shot at being a truly competetive team.

Don’t think they are struggling. They already interviewed a few people apparently for the play by play.

With the PA announcer

I understand they wanted to try something new and be more engaged with the fans to have a fan and have a competition to see who will be the PA announcer, but when it comes to something like that online you will have those that as long as they have a good following on social media they will have an advantage over someone who may be more talented but doesn't have that social media backing and it seemed like it was rushed on the devil's part

Not saying he did a bad job, wasn't there, but just think doing a social media poll to determine the PA announcer may not be the way to go

You are probably right. I hope not.
It is funny how some of the NJ crew wear masks or don’t wear masks during interviews…..

fantastic value on Jonas' new deal! He reminds me of Andy Greene a little bit. Just a really solid and wildly underrated top 4 d-man. Fitzy is a rockstar GM!
