“ the Panthers are VERY high on Paul Maurice ”

They’re high on something that’s for sure.

I cannot believe that teams keep hiring this guy. This guy put the Jets back at least 3 years. There is a reason he holds the record for most losses by a NHL head coach.

Florida fans should get used to 3 line hockey with Barkov getting 25 mins/game.

So Ek says he believes the Panthers are very high on Paul Maurice after they commit to hiring him?? Is this what I'm hearing?

The Panthers can now forget about playing any offensive, defensive and special teams systems. Have fun watching them.

Is it because he coached one of the worst rosters in the league for a decade? That's probably why.

Oh and the Jets roster has been mediocre at best for a while now. I don't know if you realize that. No coach was making that team any good this year.

Ek was all over this. A few weeks ago he made a list of Trotz, Torts, Cassidy, DeBoer, Maurice, Michel Therrien, Alain Vigneault...amazingly some of these guys have been hired. Nailed it.

Also like the insight about the Panthers being very high on Maurice. So they are high on the guy they just hired? Makes sense to me. Also the tidbit about this means Andrew Brunette either:

1) Leaves the Panthers...OR
2) Stays as an assistant coach

That basically covers every possibility. Nailed it again.

The Jets consistently were in the bottom 5 of the league for PK and high danger chances while Paul was our coach. Both Bobrovsky and Knight should be taking gymnastics classes this summer as they are going to need to be highly flexible dealing with all the rubber they are going to be facing this upcoming year.

That's because your defensive core and team depth (frank)ing sucks, man.

You have an entire D made up of #3/4 defenders. Dominic Toninato and Evgeny Svechnikov were regulars this year on the team. Blake Wheeler has fallen off a cliff the past few years and is getting worse. There's a handful of guys who are significantly overrated, including noted wienerhead Mark Scheifele.

If you're going to put the blame somewhere it should probably be on Cheveldayoff, who has pretty consistently sucked at his job since he was hired.

Maurice is an okay coach, he had to deal with rosters made up of over the hill veterans and unproven kids (most notably those late Whaler early Hurricanes days ) , aside from his 2002 cup run.

His two year stint in Toronto doesn't count that team was a mess.

As for Winnipeg, he had competent rosters with some good young talent , most notably Ehlers, Scheifele and Connor but I always felt the Jets were operating at an internal budget when it came to putting this team over hump.

The rosters were "good, not great" and nothing was ever done to improve on that. They've just progressively gotten worse as guys asked their way out of Winnipeg or just walked.

My God. Is there no fresh blood out there in this hinterland of revolving NHL coaches?

Isn't there a saying about repeating the same action but expecting a different result?

Our defense was getting slaughtered when we had Byfuglien, Trouba, Chariot, Myers, Enstrom and Morrissey. What was Maurice’s excuse then?

The Jets spent to the limit most years of Maurice's tenure as coach.

My only defense of Maurice is I really don't know how much pressure was on his decisions from Chevy and Chipman, mostly Chipman, get the sense he's a meddling owner.

Trouba, Chiarot and Meyers also suck at playing D.

While you're not totally off base in your assessment there's no denying that Maurice was very static and uncreative in most everything he did from lineup and line choices to systems, if something wasn't working well he'd just keep doing it.

He had lots of options he could of tried but he'd usually just do the same things over and over and when injuries/ Covid would force his hand and he'd stumble into a line that was working he'd eventually break it up, his interm replacement did the same thing, watching Maurice do the same ineffective things was maddening to say the least.

That's totally fair.

Any truth to the rumours that Scheifele and Wheeler INSISTED on playing on the same line and would pout/half-ass it when split up?

Yup thats true, Wheeler always looked like he was trying whatever line he was on but Scheifele looked like he was mailing it in, also think they were both very pissed that Connor was taken off their line.

Considering that Scheifele had the most success playing with Ehlers, especially this last year. I think this is all made up. Scheifele looked great after fully recovering from Covid.

Those 6 guys played 2 years together. They missed the playoffs in Morrisseys rookie year and made the conference finals the following season.
