Thoughts on how the Filip Roos signing impacts the composition of the Blackhawks and IceHogs D corps. |

The signage of Roos is no...
Well.....no rouse
Not foreshadowing S Jones.moving out. I would not mind, however, if C Jones did not return
Really I feel we just wait and see how the newbie Swede works out. In a year - even at next trade deadline- Davidson may feel he has a healthy abundance of promising young dmen
It is way to early to entertain thoughts on how Davidson might exchange an excess from the blueline for help.up.front
One more season, or partial season and we should see youngsters sticking on the blueline while Murphy is jettisoned.
I am going to guess that either Kane or DeBrincat gets traded IF A TRADE OF A TOP FORWARD ACTUALLY GOES DOWN. I think that Davidson wants a first in "22 and first in "23. Start adding fast forwards, goal scorers, larger size top six forwards.
After all, there seems to be enough promisimg young dmen around |

Possibly but, the Hawks Euro scouting has tended to be the one bright spot when it comes to bringing in fresh players.
They may not last too long but the players are at least useful for a season or two. |

And for other teams also. Seems the players have success once they leave the Blackhawks. |

i think its time to see what we have in the ahl in defense men, it has been awhile since some of those guys have played there. Have they peaked or has there been enough improvement |

Steve brought up speed in the last thread and I have to agree 100% there. Teams need some guys with size but Carolina and Colorado sure give teams fits with their team speed. And they're entertaining to watch.
The athletic did an interesting piece on team make up which is worth a read if you have a sub. |

The Blackhawks submit a low ball offer to Claude Giroux before he signs with Ottawa so it gives the impression they tried to fill the Strome departure and they are not truly tanking.
Murphy & Strome go to Columbus with another rostered player for the first rounder #12 as Jarmo Kekalainen tries to bolster his present line-up and pity for Chicago.
If Jarmo shows no interest, they see what the Leafs will give me to acquire Mrzarek.
Under Roos and Vlasic become part of the Hawk defense.
No other outside acquisition's are attempted. |

Agreed...i wonder how much that has to do with them getting comfortable the North America game? Hopefully this kid pans out because they need some younger D men to take some steps in the next year or so. |

Yeah both teams are very entertaining to watch. They just fly around shift after shift and just forces the opposition out of their comfort zones having to make plays a few seconds earlier than they are comfortable with and on the forecheck....just constant pressure on the D men usually results in turnovers and prime chances.
See if Calgary can bounce back tonight.... |

Think the Leafs just inked Giordano (spell) for 2 years at some low ball price. leafs are becoming like a NBA team where all these veterans are chasing rings at low ball AAVs....Tampa has a few guys as well.
Think out of the 3 veteran D men (jones, murphy, mccabe)...Murphy would be most attractive for the opposition in regard to talent and his contract.

My feeling is Roos doesn't likely translate to an NHL regular and doesn't make the team. I think he will be AHL bound and fail to translate his game to the NHL. |

I don't know the deal, but I hope the team has some patience with him as he works on his game. I think there is potential there for a 2nd pair guy who can play a two-way game on the blueline. |

Some Buffalo arm chair GM's on capfriendly want Murphy so he can be paired with Power. Maybe a trading partner there. Doubt if he will return a 1st. Maybe he can be packaged with another prospect to expand the deal and increase the return. Sure would like to pry away their prospect Peterka somehow.
Also maybe Dallas will be looking for a RD if Klingberg walks.

As opposed to StanBo, I don't think KD is enamored with smaller size defenseman. |

But his best girlfriend is former Hawk Campbell, not ever a defensive stalwart at taking the larger bodies either.
I am not so sure that Marc Kelley wasn't the guy behind drafting offense men, but the league had already seen success with average and smaller defenders who had accurate hard shots foot speed, with the hopes the defensive side can compensate.
(I will never forget in the first game Gustav Forsling played after they acquired him fro Vancouver, how from the point, he put the puck right on net when the hawks filled traffic in the home plate area, how Quenelle looked right over at his assistant like they had acquired a weapon.)
I am not sure of Carolina's reasoning when they placed on waivers by the Hurricanes prior to the delayed 2020–21 season in January and Florida claimed him.
He is a tad under 6 feet and has learned to use his positives in the playing of defense, but I think the game now deploys three type of defenseman who play in the top two pairs, besides the "elites":
Smaller fast jumper mailmen who have the green light to attack.
Giant bruiser types whose biggest offensive weapons are being offensive to the other team's attackers especially the bigger named ones to punish them with the hopes they wear down, back down, or let up.
All around fast bigger guys who eat minutes, block shots, shoot hard and know their way around the offensive side.
There is room for all, there is still an emphasis on quickness up ice and really good hands.
The hawks where looking to repopulate their backline, and I THINK THAT was what they emphasized.
THEN comes that Montreal Tampa Final where the big boy Hab defenders led my Weber player their hearts full of physicality, never letting up, and suddenly there was a new opinion on what teams need in Cup runs.
Hence, trading their 3rd rounder THIS 2022 Draft for the THE 91st slot Taige Harding?????
Don't anybody tell me you can only get a player in the first round, because MY team thinks enough about a giant 6 foot seven former AJHL Fort McMurray team captain defenseman now at Providence College to trade to add to their defender stable with that big buy defender.... |

I agree with the bolded, plus he’s a RD. Unlike many here, I don’t have a problem with Murphy, but we do have Mitchell and Regula that are both RD and will be ready for the show sometime in 2023, or before. McCabe is the one defenseman that I’d like to see moved out at the draft, maybe Beaudin goes with him to increase the return. Theo has mentioned in the past that Beaudin looks slow, with his smallish built that’s not a good combination. |
