Let me just try to understand your thinking here Ek...
Oilers played an awful game. Numerous giveaways and odd man rushes. Smith shares blame too. He was not sharp at all. But Smith has shown he has bounced back from poor performances. Last series he made an awful play that led to a winning goal. He bounced back and was excellent the rest of the way.
But rather than give Smith the opportunity to bounce back...in a series that is merely 1-0...you want to parachute in Skinner, who has started 13 career NHL games, with the most recent game being over 3 months ago.

That's your plan. Good blog. - Cooleus
Goaltending was not the biggest problem, just a symptom. Defensive play was non-existent. The GWG was scored by a wide-open Andersson walking in. Not sure where the Oilers were. One guy behind the net covering Mangiapane. Maybe that's a result of always trying for the home run pass to generate offence. Tkachuk scored the 8-6 goal because the entire team was past the blueline before the puck even left the zone.
Koskinen wasn't great, but he's stolen enough wins to be at least the 2nd choice. Skinner couldn't even win a game in the AHL playoffs 2nd round.

I wanted to see more Skinner all season long, but the coach would have to be batpoop crazy to drop him into the net right now. Have to live or die with Smith at this point.
Would be funny if the Oilers tighten up and win 2-1 with Smith playing well. They get their split and head back to Edmonton. The BuzzCrew would then just move on to another topic like how the Avs should have acquired MAF or stuff about Patrice Bergeron might be signing in Montreal.
Exactly. You don't throw in Skinner down 1-0 in the series. Nobody in the world would do that, besides Ek I guess. Smith tonight. If he's terrible then you go to Koskinen in Game 3. But you don't panic and throw in a guy with 13 games of experience, the last being in February.
You want to put a guy like Skinner, who has 14 games TOTAL of NHL experience under his belt, in a MUST win for the Oilers? No way. It's Mike Smith's net in Game 2, lose or win.

Doesn't matter who is in net. McDavid will either miracle this team into the next round or not. Mike Smith and every other goalie behind him on the depth chart are just along for the ride. You could grab a random hobo from the bus station and have the same chances as Skinner or Smith.

Nothing like the ol' Ek kiss of life. Great game for Smith last night! Looking forward to another tomorrow. Skinner's time will come, but not this spring.
