"Earlier this season, the Penguins’ new ownership group told Hextall they wanted to see his vision for the team in writing. Hextall, a creature of habit and in the middle of regular-season responsibilities, initially explained that his plan for the Penguins’ future was in his head and not easily articulated by the written word.

He was told to write his vision for the Penguins’ future anyway."

This is (frank)ing comical. Fire him now lol

You’d think of change was happening, or would be imminent so that the off season can get started in the right direction (as per fsg anyways)

Just turned it on...can't turn off a playoff OT.
Big question is...anyone get their ass kicked yet? Battle of Alberta in the 80's was the most vicious I've ever seen...beyond any NY-NY or Pens-Flyers wars.

I told you already that FSG wasnt impressed with Hextall. This pretty much confirms why. That's like if my Director asked me to build a model and write up a business analysis and I told him I couldnt since it was too hard to take it from my mind and put it on paper.

I think they will go after an established NHL GM, maybe even a current GM. They will throw a ton of money at them and offer them a promotion.

What a wild game. Cal. - Dal. had 24 total non EN goals in 7 games, up to 11 already in 2 periods of game 1.

Are there people at FSG that are hockey people? I’ll be honest I’ve never heard of it because the only team sport I follow is hockey. Everyone is assuming that this conglomerate of money is the greatest thing ever but they own baseball and European football teams. Where money buys you what you want. Having a poop ton of money doesn’t exactly give you a leg up in hockey, so I’m not sure why everyone keeps mentioning all the money they have.

That's a good question? Your right that the capped league is something new for them, but their organizational philosophy is built on paying whatever it takes for good mgmt, which is not capped in NHL, and using analytics to determine their path. That is why a player like Mookie Betts was traded instead of retained, because their data said he was not worth the contract he wanted and they could extract more value in a trade. It will be interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks.

Thats a good point...one thing I would consider though is what gives this business the best chance at selling tickets/making money? Letting Geno and/or Letang walk or keeping them? I think the latter does.

If there will be a move to replace Hextall that’s fine, but it better be in the next 3-7 days. Can’t drag your feet with so many important decisions. Hope they already have someone in mind.

They should can him and bring their own people in. I'd be pretty surprised if they didn't. Especially after the tidbit from Yohe.

Yeah I agree, but given where we are in the year they better have the person identified. Can’t drag it out with multiple interviews.

Why not? It's not like it takes long to fly people in for interviews for jobs that pay millions lol. Playoffs aren't over for like another month. Draft ain't till July. They have plenty of time.

Bobby Margarita's mid first round projections:

Pens with the 21st pick. Wonder where they go.

Something seems fishy to me. It’s like a bunch of baseball heads saw the name Crosby and just saw dollar signs. I think we’re going to see this team ran like a business where dollar signs are the most important thing.

Given how the pens have traded away lots of high picks, is it normal for a team to have drafted almost no nhl talent? Rust & guentzel were obviously home runs, but how many decent nhl caliber players have the pens drafted over the years? And that’s going all the way back to staal (when they shoulda took towes). Sure it’s early for some, and hindsight for others, but still seems kinda pathetic. Sprong, Sheary, blueger, kapanen, maybe Addison, and maybe some goalies, including jarry & Murray? Sure I’m missing a few, and there’s fringe guys like kuhnackl, Wilson, and Simon, but isnt that pretty much it?
The draft can be a crap shoot after the top 10-15 picks, and especially outside the 1st rd, but not really even many later round picks good enough to play on the 3rd or 4th line? That just seems crazy to me, but maybe I’m wrong, haha.

Agreed. Who are they associated with who are hockey gurus? What are they looking for specifically and who do they perceive would bring that to the table?

Like many have mentioned, I think they're going to base their opinion on Hextall's plan not the GM himself. My guess is Hexy's approach is too conservative and slow for them. If it doesn't include a clear path to keeping Malkin and Letang... they'll cut bait.

I don't think they dump Hexy because they have a better guy waiting in the wings. I think they won't like his plan, remove him, interview someone whose plan they like better. Done-zo.

And 100% to the comments that Letang and Geno bring way more box office than any other free agents in their range who are 3-4 years younger.

Give Malkin 4 years and Letang 5. Front load their contracts so at the end of their careers you have the option to trade them to cash strapped team with lots of salary cap. Key word being "option".
