While a big splash for a number one center would be cool, realistically the plan is likely that Fiala is traded off for young/cheap/talented assets.

Let’s say Fiala lands someone like Turcotte from the Kings or Holtz from the Devils. Add in Marco Rossi and the team is still likely a playoff contender but likely not a cup contender. But 3 years of playoffs, and three years of Boldy, Rossi, Holtz, Addison, etc all growing and Wallstedt, Lambos, Peary, etc all becoming NHL regular right as the cap hit declines and Guerin can go big game hunting and add a big piece or two to become contenders.

That’s about as wishful thinking as we can allow right now given the situation!

So… cam failed the team in the end and was a locker room cancer. Poor decision to start him may have cost the team the round.

Bummer.

I think the Ducks and Wild can make each other better...

Some pieces each have that could help each squad.

Yes, trade Fiala. NJ look like a good spot for him, they will give him big bucks and the term he desires.
Fiala to NJ for #2 OA, Sharangovich, Kevin Bahl
Take #2 OA and draft Cooley, there is your center!

I would try to trade Talbot to SJ for Reimer. Reimer is cheaper and no better or worse than Talbot or MAF. Fiala’s offense will be tough to replace during the regular season. His no show in the POs crippled the offense. They should prioritize him if the money isn’t outrageous. Fiala has progressed and the team has to realize that it’s 2 steps forward and one back with him. Dumba has never been the same since that fight in the Calgary game a few years ago. A top 4 RD should get a good return. A deadline trade for Dumba may bring more but I have a feeling that Dumba will continue his decline next year and be exposed and less valuable.

You will need to sweeten the deal if you want 2OA and Sharongovich and Bahl. Perhaps a 2nd rounder coming back with Fiala?

Also, forget about Holtz. He's not going anywhere unless we hire Chiarelli as GM

For the second overall pick, Wild can send Fiala, Dumba, Fleury and especially Nordy, the lame mascot.

And not taking Nordy is not an option.

I feel like any Fiala trade might need to calibrate around the fact signing Fiala as a RFA will cost 1 first, 1 second, and 1 third. But that would be at next years draft, not this years. With everyone knowing MN can't match an offer sheet, and New Jersey extremely likely to be picking lower in next years draft, that's definitely going to effect how much MN can ask for.
