Johansson back to Washington.

Leaves Sheahan and Soucy unless he moves some RFAlike Donato but thinking Francis has moved out a lot of pieces.

Sprong is playable for Johansson.

Also man, so many picks and I enjoyed the laughing at Lauzon.

Yes, why go for success when you can go through a Buffalo-style rebuild?

While not expecting the Knights its well documented Francis misread things and botched the expansion draft coming out of the gates. That said he has done really well here turning assets into draft picks. 34 now and a body to get through the season in Sprong which he did need.

He’s going all into the Free Agent market and going to draft heavy to stock the cupboards so not unhappy at all.

One of the NT/MC boys so don't think he will go, but if he agreed to go have to think Francis would likely want a 1st there.

Group with clauses are Eberle, Wennberg, Schwartz, and Gourde up front and Oleksiak and Larsson on the back end.

Yeah Francis stuck to "1st round pick or nothing" at the expansion.

Chevy said it in his interview today that they tried making a deal with Seattle to have them not pick Appleton. I would hope that it would have been a 4th or lower for that or else Francis made a mistake.

Now, I won't crucify him for it as long as he learned from it.

Yeah, I think that was the big thing there from the start. Francis misread the whole thing. At this point he seems to have learned and he certainly is clearing the deck. This is more like a traditional expansion team route at this point. All the picks will help but unless it is a top 2 odds are they are a couple years away or more. Beniers likely will show up next year but overall expecting a pretty new roster coming in. For now he has really had a very very good trade deadline here.

Francis may have misread to some degree, sure, but he also didn't have the mass stupidity from other GM's that Vegas had. The Vegas expansion was a one-off, and a lot of GM's did some learning from it.

Absolutely and THAT is how he misread the whole thing bad. As pointed out above he thought he could hold the other GM's hostage and demand 1sts for not taking certain players and it blew up in his face. At least he has learned and moved off things like demanding a 1st for Gio. He shifted and made a great deal there in the end.

I think that's what he misread. That the landscape had changed from Vegas and a lot of GMs were of the opinion take whoever while Vegas had GMs scared to lose specific guys.

Pieces left for Francis who they could possibly move

Soucy - Edmonton rumored to have interest
Dunn
Donskoi
Sheahan
Donato - RFA but cheap option and might draw attention

I think he should keep these guys for next year. Any term guys can be dealt at the draft or next deadline.

Don't have to sell everything because it won't attract free agents in the off season.

I think they have had a successful deadline.

Donskoi, Soucy, and Dunn all have more years under contract the other two no. Donato is a RFA though.

Given they have Carrick and Cholowski with the defence, if the Oil get serious on Soucy I can see them moving him easy enough still yeah. I think they might get close to being done here at this point though yeah.

Yeah maybe you're right on Soucy though.

Donato signed though I think. Again, he's young, and since he did sign you want to show free agents a bit of faith in coming here.

Sorry you are correct Donato has next year. Misread capfriendly there
