While buying out Parise and Suter wasn’t a good move financially, they were the inmates running the asylum and needed to be broomed. Evasion seemed to signal it ahead of time when he reduced Parise’s ice time and had him in the press box. I think Staal was a good presence but like Mikko his skills were in deep decline.

The Wild have really caught a break by having Merrill, Kulikov and Benn all coming through with solid play. Now about that 1C.

Excellent write up Dan. As always, thank you for the work you put in posting here.

I am starting to wonder if Guerin has shifted to just trying to run the table with this roster as it currently is. He will still be able to trade Fialalalala away after the season as he will still be an RFA. Giving Fiala anything north of $6mil/yr will basically leave the Wild with just under $10 mil to fill 7 spots. It will help that players like Boldy, Rossi and Beckman will be under contract for under $900k each. But if you are going to resign Goligoski at $2mil/yr for 2 more year (from all the rumors), that will REALLY handcuff the Wild's ability to complete the roster.

Like to see what magic crystal ball Guerin is looking into.
