Not disagreeing with anything you said, but I'm guessing that Ortiz's ballots were boosted by his actions post-Boston bombing.

He became an icon for "Boston Strong" - and writers love the whole "transcended the sport" narrative.

So would not upgrading this defence unit. That is, if you're serious about wanting to win in the playoffs.

Although I like Liljgren, it is utterly preposterous to call him our third best defenceman, if you actually consider his time on ice this season, and his opposition matchup. This is no criticism, but the guy has been playing sheltered minutes against bottom six players. He simply cannot yet handle a top four role in this league.

He may have to go to improve this d group. It's the cost of doing business, and no one is giving defencemen away.

Liljergen has some nice potential, but also Dermott was here once as well...

His value is his potential + his already proven bottom pairing ability.

Looking at his stats, usage and whatever games I’ve seen him play he seems like a solid 2nd pairing guy.

Has been doing well with top pair mins with Hamilton out.

I’m all for it, just hope people are ready for the hefty price tag and NJD deserves it.
