Michael,

Very nice, well-written post. I feel badly for Stamkos and others who may never play in the Olympics.

But the group that caused this problem is the IOC, they are the people to blame for putting the games in China so they can suck up to a regime that practices slave labor and genocide. Just behind them is the NHL and NHLPA, who did not allow players to go to Korea in 2018, but thought it would be ok to send them to the 21st century version of the Third Reich that released COVID-19 to the world.

I feel bad for Stamkos but he actually does have a gold medal from the 2014 Olympics since he was named to the team but couldnt play due to injury he still got one. He has spoken about it in the media over the years here in Tampa. In no way does that medal feel important to him but its still an acknowledgement they he was a great player who would have represented his country if not for injury.

As for the Olympics, glad they are not going. Just schedule a World Cup for the beginning of next year before the season or build in 2 weeks into the season to do it. Still a best on best of all the greats before the Crosby generation retires.

For sure. The blog loses a bit of its 'oomph' if the premise is that he's got a meaningful medal though. It's the idea that he's lost out on the Gold medal experience and all that it means to be there and contribute.

I imagine that the 2014 experience played at least a bit of a role in him pushing to come back for that 2:47 on the 2020 Cup run. He can say he contributed.

back to back Stanley Cups is a pretty good consolation prize. guy has a legit shot at a three-peat, that has to be pretty special. not many players get a shot at a three-peat.

Olympic hockey is highly overrated being the IOC is so money grubbing. The games have lost their prestige since allowing pros.

China having any Olympics has made it a farce to say the least.

Idc about millionaires missing out on a tainted event while risking NHL commitments.

Medal Stammer received was tainted for him as we all know he did not play and decisions lead to Marty sticking his thumb in his mouth, taking his stick and ball and going home waaaaaaaa

corona hit the Bolts today. Vasy and Elliot both out. I hope your third-stringer is decent.

Its going to be interesting to say the least.

But it sounds like Point is back unless he enters protocols.

Lightning are going to play the turtle defense with a shell of players in front of rookie AHL goalies in net.

Can't wait... lol.

Point back is a huge plus. That compensates for Cirelli being in corona-land.

Looks like Legace gets the start for the bolts tonight. If he's smart, he'll kill it and make Elliot nervous about his backup job.

That was a roller coaster but the Tampa Bay Find-A-Ways win again.

Point was fired up, Cal Foote is not an NHL Dman, we need the Big Cat in net so bad.

Not sure I can take this next week without Vasy...

Point is a beast. (frank) you for having him, Kucherov, Hedman, Stamkos, and Vasy.

I don't know enough about Foote to have an opinion.

it was nice to see an offensively stunted team get 4 goals past the bolts. that doesn't happen with vasilevskiy in net.
