True, but Gaut will only be due a small raise (in comparison) and will certainly be bridged. I also think that Kakko needs to be bridged, regardless of what kind of money he deserves. Laffy the following year, too. That's just the nature of the cap realities.

It would largely depend on Vancouver’s plan for the future. If they decide to begin a rebuild they may be accepting of a deal not involving a rostered player. At the very least, it’s not dismissive.

Not a Rangers fan by any stretch but wouldn’t a better comparison be svech in Carolina if you’re looking at a long term deal. I mean Hughes is a center which naturally gets paid more(although that’s a pretty brutal contract for his production to date). Besides although I’m not looking at the numbers I feel like it’s a pretty safe bet Svech has put up better numbers than both guys in his first 3 years. I mean unless Kakko moved to center in which case just ignore this post.

I don’t see a world in which kakko is not bridged. He needs to continue to prove himself and we don’t have cap. Thanks for specifying you’re not a fan

Wonder if a 1 year extension could be an option for Kakko.
-lower cap hit next season to help keep Strome
-removes risk of an offer sheet (for a year)
-sign for long term deal (hopefully still less than Hughes) after all dead money is off the books and cap is up by a few million.

I’m sure there are still hurdles but could be an option.

I really like Lafreniere and Gauthier together, I've really come around on Gauthier

but maybe they need a french canadian center that becomes the best faceoff guy on the team

Chytl biggest problem is consistency and staying healthy. I think his ceiling is a 3c as opposed to a 2c tbh
