Thanks Theo - Happy to hear the Seabs is coaching. Could he be the next "Yawney" in this organization?

I’m sure it would take a few years to rise in the ranks but it would be cool to see him coaching the Hawks one day.

Hey Theo. The article says that the Hawks are "open to moving" Borgstrom. That's a bit of a jump to "actively shopping him. I think he's like about 80% of the roster in that they are open to moving him if they get the right offer.

get as many high draft picks as possible. the only way to get competitive again. No untouchables.

After seeing Borgstrom play 12 games here, the Hawks - with lack of centers who have proven to be top-6 skaters (yeah, I include Dach and Toews in the “lack of proven” category) - have decided to market him?

And Borgstrom and Kubalik could bring back high end draft picks or prospects?

I guess I just don’t understand player evaluation in this league.

Stillman and de Haan both on the ice for the morning skate. No word yet on if one or both are playing. MAF likely starter.

What I was hinting at was for Seabs to coach Rockford (or whatever AHL team it is) to mentor the next "Keith and Seabs". Full circle!

Before anybody gets moved I have to think a head of hockey operations would have to be in place. Second hawks management need to pick a direction of the team and stick with it, whether that's a rebuild or keep trying to retool and stay competitive needs to be decided. Imo I would keep borgstrom due to the lack of center depth Kubalik strome Johnson towes Kane Murphy dehann anybody else could be moved. Build around the new core going forward dcat dach Jones McCabe only mention him due needing another veteran dman hagel.

Sorry for jumping the to the next step but I got what you were driving at. After mentoring some players in junior and the AHL I’d like to see if he can possibly earn himself a spot in the NHL preferably with Chicago.

Blackhawks beat reporters are now saying that Stillman is a game-time decision tonight and de Haan could likely suit up this weekend in one of the New York games.

Because it's worked so well for Buffalo an Edmonton, Ottawa the last 30 years?

There are flaws in those three clubs. None of them try to develop. Players are brought right to the NHL club right away before they’re ready. The Rangers do the same thing. I’ll agree that it doesn’t always work but I don’t see a better formula for building any franchise in any sport than stocking up on as many prospects as possible and adding free agents to fill holes. What do you think is a better way to build the club?

Agree with this post but might emend your last sentence to say I don't understand how the "Hawks" evaluate if this rumor is true. The skill to be a 1st rd pick, excellent size, a natural centerman, at 24 yrs old he's ready for the bigs with 77 NCAA games, 30 games in the top Finnish pro league, 73 AHL games and 70 NHL games. His profile says he's ready for an extended look in the NHL to see what he is.

His fancies have come around nicely this yr at 50% corsi, 50% SF%, 60% HDCF, he's at 46% SCF but overall his fancies are solid now playing 3C for 5-6 games in a row with a revolving cast of linemates. And for me I'd add he passes the eye test as well.

Anyone would agree the Hawks have a real dearth of legit middle 6 prospects. Borgstrom would be the kinda player the Hawks want right now not get rid of unless you get a better player back especially at his value contract.

Like Detroit it’s going to take Chicago a long time to rebuild. As we’ve discussed ad nauseam, the Hawks currently have almost nothing. Two aging stars with their best days behind them. A defenseman who is too old to build around. A decent winger who can score. A nice gritty depth winger. A center trying to find his way and a few prospects. The only way to rebuild is methodically through the draft and having the discipline not to take short cuts.

The obvious answer is strictly EU FA's.

On a serious note, let's look at Buffalo and Chicago. They are currently both in about the same position. The major difference is Kane. Otherwise, they both have a lot of young guys and some good to mediocre vets.

My question is: If you don't want to ice the young guys who aren't ready, who do you put on the ice? Do you just sign a bunch of trash heap vets to one year deals? Fill out the roster with Hino, Connolly, Kahun types until the young guys show they are ready? I'm sure I'm missing a bunch of moving parts here, but when do you bring the young guys up, and how do you make space for them?

And that’s why the business side prevents a proper rebuild. Can you imagine how empty the building would be if the hawks were to properly rebuild and continue to develop young guys in the AHL and in junior? If I could answer your question I’d be making millions as the GM instead of flipping burgers and salting fries for minimum wage.
