Great blog Jan!

It drives me nuts again how Gauthier doesn’t stay in the lineup. He’s exactly what it needs. He may not score a lot but he is not pleasant to defend I can tell ya that. If Mckegg is in over him I could get arrested haha

-I think this little break w/o games was the cure for the many ills they’re having. First period was awful, and that second was a statement to me. This is our team now- we’re a grinding, gritty, in your face forechecking team, cycle, etc. Transitioning into that identity is what is hurting the eyes when we watch lol fans gotta accept this kind of thing, and players have to buy in I guess.

Taking some time but I thought the second period could be the turning point of the season.
——————
-Panarin. I dont think he has bought in yet. He just always looks sluggish. He’s having trouble with the identity change. Tonight I thought he was back to being Panarin. He was an all star

-Kakko and Lafs baby steps are gnawing at me. Let’s (frank)ing go already my god. I think sometimes orgs have to make very difficult decisions, and right now might be one to make😬. I’d send both down to Hartford. Nothing for discipline or anything like that. Out of the pressure, out of the spotlight for a bit and just play. Get confidence and then come up for the playoffs. I’d even try Laf at center in Hartford playing with Kakko. Make no mistake, these two will make or break this whole rebuild thing.

Call up Barron and Zac, sit Nemeth…throw Tinordi in the trash

lil drastic but:
Kreider-Zib-Blais
Panarin-Strome-Goodrow
Barron-Chytil(he’s gotta stay healthy)-Gauthier
Hunt-Rooney-Reaves

*Chytil could swap with Goodrow too I think. I’d love to try Chytil on the wing and use Goodrow as the 3C

(I really think Kravtsov is a huge missing piece. They have figure out out with him for next season, or maybe playoffs.)

-I do see a RW added by the deadline, I’d bet Phil Kessel is a Ranger

Lindgren-Fox
Jones-Trouba
Miller- Nils

Anyway. Hopefully Shesty is really ok.

To add another thought to Jan's list:

8) The performance by the 4th line tonite ---- really dominant at times. Reaves almost got his 1st goal and Dryden Hunt actually led the team with SEVEN shots on goal.

Maybe Kreider was pissed he didn't get the C and he is making a statement... which is OK with me

Honestly, the team is really pushing the puck through Kreider. Hes being used in the offense more than hes ever been. Gallant definitely saw something there with his talent in front of the net and wanted to exploit it. However I also feel they were becoming a one trick pony. It was a play they seemingly were trying to use on every line, which didnt work. Its a reason why I kind of dont want Zibanejad playing with Kreider. I feel like Zibanejad focusing on feeding Kreider in front of the net is taking away from his own play and scoring. I feel like anyone can feed Kreider in front, it doesnt have to be Zib. I want Zib by himself, focusing on himself with some playmakers around him.

Agree with you about Gauthier. All preseason and the games he’s played, he’s shown flashes of the type of player he could be. Only problem becomes who comes out when Chytil comes back? Hunt has actually looked really solid recently, playing the spark plug role. Actually has some hands and skill too. Don’t love Gaut on the 4th line anyway but agree he should get in the lineup more frequently.

Kakko and Laf are an issue. Rangers offensive production is super top heavy. Goodrow is 5th in points with 7! Not good. Need those 2 to get going and if it means a month in Hartford I’m for it. Did think Kakko had a good game last night but gotta try to score on the empty net. One goal and maybe he breaks out.

In a means to balance and hopefully extract from all of our top end players...

LAF, Zib, Blais
- LAF needs to be put in a position to succeed, but they also need this line to play with the mindset of skill through the zone rather than a dump and chase mentality.
Panarin, Strome, Gauthier
- I feel Gauthier did enough to earn a move to this line. This is the obvious skill line here. Gauthier clearly hasnt lost his ability to use his size and drive to the net.
Kreider, Goodrow, Kakko
- This line would be the N/S line, push the pace and drive to the net. Goodrow and Kakko have more than enough ability to feed Kreider in front of the net.

Im sure Ill get hate from all the Kreider supporters saying I hate him and why would I put him on the 3rd line. Yadda Yadda. Lines can always be adjusted based on the situation. Its not hard to move Kreider up and down from 1st to 3rd to 1st.

To be fair lias sucks and never should’ve went that high. Kakko and Laf were the right picks. It’s a development issue and also on the players. A lot of great spoofers in bad situations succeeding regardless of development program

First off Blais wasnt traded for to be a first line player nor is he, he is at best a third line player, he has no hands!!

Second why break up Zib and CK20 when they have produced together?? Its like saying to break up Panarin and Strome. They work well together, keep them together, you arent going to reinvent the wheel.

Panarin, Strome isnt the same because theyres a synergy there. Strome's playmaking complements Panarin, and Strome without Panarin isnt producing in the same fashion.

Regardless of what you think of Blais' hands, Kakko hasnt done anything to deserve to be on the first line.

I dont disagree that it works well, but I feel that its taking some of the fire from Zib to play the "feed Kreider in front" game. Its costing him shots that he would normally take. Anyone can feed Kreider in front of the net, it doesnt have to be Zib all the time.

Its just another look to give other teams. I think our inability to give other teams different looks can be a reason why we give up leads. We give teams 2 periods of material to study and they adjust where we dont.

But what has laf done to deserve being put on the first line? You say Kakko has done nothing, same
