Theo Fox: Nuclear Fallout Thoughts on the Blackhawks investigation results and fallout particularly regarding the general manager position, Jeremy Colliton's status as head coach, and impact on the team's on-ice performance.

Plus, updates on the COVID protocol list, Caleb Jones, Wyatt Kalynuk, and tonight's game versus the Maple Leafs.

This blog will serve as quite the time capsule of a very dark day for the franchise. Thanks for going to the trouble. My head and my heart hurt.

Any other day Theo, you’d be called out for the hyperbolic blog title. And congratulations on leaving us to make up our own minds on the events of yesterday, other bloggers would have seen an opportunity for blog hits by not taking the high road. And had everyone in the front office taken the high road and done the right thing in 2010 the bomb that exploded yesterday and the smearing of the Blackhawk brand and the battering people’s names took wouldn’t have taken place. That said, as a member of this community your opinion on this matter would be of interest I’m sure to many, but certainly myself.

As for GM I’d prefer the hawks don’t go the retread route and leave Rutherford, Tallon in their retirement homes. Anyone without experience that’s being discussed like Olczyk or Hossa would be OK in an assistant role to begin learning the ropes. The names that interest me are Gorton and Dale Hunter.

My expectation is JC will be canned but it wouldn’t surprise me if the interim GM let’s this season ride out with JC behind the bench.

Fire sale anyone! Everyone not a rookie must go. Especially before their NMC kicks in.

This makes all the bad decisions made during this past off season, even worse. A new GM will want to remake the roster to his desires. Which brings up the question, will the next GM be allowed to do what he wants or will he be forced to bow to his masters? Which will be a turn off to the most desirable and available GM’s.

JC is basically done as well. So bye - bye.

I would also expect Q and Chevy to lose their positions as well. If not, that’s some heavy BS.

Seasons over. Let the new rebuild begin!

P.S. how’s that Covid vaccine working out?

What a colossal poop show.
Definitely not a proud day for the Blackhawks organisation. Any way you cut it this was handled terribly by all and they should be ashamed. Terrible that this type of approach and boys club mentality still exists today when innocent people are being victimized. Not a tear shed for the consequences for those who covered up this up. If what I read is true and that players tormented the victim as well then shame on you Toews as captain as well as all others who participated.

Collitin needs to go like yesterday. He's never been good and has obviously lost the room, bye bye.

Hire a GM with a proven track record.

Full rebuild is the only way forward.

It’s sad to think this stuff continues to happen. Sad day for the Blackhawks an organization full of rich history and one person that had disregarded that for their own wants. The last week we read about the locker room needing change well now is the time from the Captain down. Three Cups is 6 years gets beat up by a moron.

There will always be morons and predators in society but its how we choose to handle these people and more importantly how we treat the victims as well as preventing future victims will be the true measure of our actions. Unfortunately Blackhawks failed in that respect and are paying the price as they should.

This pains me to say but...great post Paul and agree especially on the call out about how Theo approached all this in his usual classy manner.

Afa as the GM role/vacancy, you and I talked a bit about this yesterday but we both know you're advocating for the wrong Dale.

Did he coach before in the NHL? Can't remember. The Gorton name was interesting too. Didn't know much about him til Oprah's post and link.

With some of the reshuffling in the FO the last few years I've been aware of Davidson's name. I really don't know what his views are on what type of team to assemble but even still, I'd prefer to outside the organization to get a completely fresh take on things.

Just a few comments:

** Good lord, what a horrible situation, just unbelievable
** Internal investigation was the best thing the Hawks could have done. Had this come from outside Hawks may be looking at much stiffer penalties. The current penalties seem very light
** Q is likely not long for it, he too should be terminated if allegations are true
** Disappointed any of these men (Bowman, Q, whoever) were allowed to "step down". They should have been FIRED and maybe Q will be. Then, good.
** How much did the players know about this? I am reading some disturbing things. If they knew, then the Cup IS tainted
** I disagree that addressing this in 2010 would have hurt the team's chances to win the Cup. Had the Hawks met it head on the moment allegations surfaced, you quickly get in front of it, fire the video guy and press charges. You keep the steamroller rolling while ALSO maintaining your integrity

And off the beaten path again
** I am NOT blaming the victim, but it's kinda weird to me a "Video Guy" could force a pro hockey player into a sexual situation. Hockey players are supposed to be badass. Imagine trying to force Bob Probert into something like that? I know not everyone is as tough as he was, but it's just odd a pro hockey player can be forced into this. Reminds me of the BS that happened at Penn State, college football players are some sturdy boys, can't believe they didn't pummel that scumbag coach. And yes I understand that "power" is not always meant to be physical, and psychological power can be just as, even more, detrimental. This just underscores my ignorance.

In the end this has all but ended the NHL season for Hawks fans. I am contemplating cancelling my Center Ice. I hope the organization finds a great GM who 1) can restore integrity to the organization, 2) build an organization from the ground up.

I am also ending my vendetta against Bowman, he is not worth it, an entitled hack who got to where he was because of his last name. I am also done speaking of Coach Q with reverence, he's as much of a scumbag as the rest of them. Truly sad.

And lastly, as I mentioned Penn State, their legendary coach Joe Paterno was mixed up in much the same way Bowman and Q were mixed up in this scandal. It was a black stain on the PSU program, but they rose from the ashes and are now back to being a prominent program again. So this too shall pass and the hawks will, one day, become a great team again. Hopefully this time without the slime.

Who is going to hire the new GM? The same people/person who extended Stan's contract along with a promotion to Prez of Hockey Ops making him the top hockey side mind in the organIzation who then extended Colliton this last offseason?

My hope is they somehow hire the right guy as Prez of Anything To Do With The Hockey Side (a John Davidson/Lou Lamoriello type) FIRST and let him hire the GM. If so they have started the process of building a hockey operations process properly.

Simple?

** To coach or even be involved with a youth hockey team (Squirts up to Midgets) you have to go through a rigorous background check, including police records, child abuse, FBI, you name it. I applaud USA Hockey for this.

The psychological thing is absolutely what happened.

I can't believe that things like this are still happening. I know it was a decade ago but I just can't fathom that no one reported this to any type of law enforcement agency, the NHL, or whomever else. I usually hold hockey in the highest of regard when it comes to the major sports in relation to hockey players being "good people" but this is a huge stain and what's more concerning is that, like you reference, it involves revered people.

Also mind blown that people were allowed to resign.

Great point. Anyone involved in retaining Stan Bowman should be excluded from the room when any discussions take place about his successor.

Based on recent performances, Gorton would be ideal to lead a rebuild which Chicago needs and Bowman was ignoring.

Well we thought he was rebuilding, but then he switched gears mid stream, a completely clueless, rudderless direction. The Jones trade and contract will end up being Bowman's going away present.

Seems to have been given the Dwight Schrute titles through the years, all the way to assistant to the regional manager ... I mean gm.

Meant to add that any hire to oversee a hopeful total overhaul of anything regarding the hockey side must be from outside the organIzation. It is paramount the decision maker that CONSTRUCTS the path the Hawks will choose for the next iteration of the franchise has not been inside the fishbowl of riddles that has paralyzed the organIzation since the last cup.
