It's understandable that Sanheim would want the play back. If he stops the puck the goal doesn't happen. The pass across handcuffed him a little as he was turning and it deflected off his stick across. However the real goat on the play is Giroux. Giroux lost his F3 positioning. Yes, Konecny made an ill advised centering pass but he's looking to make a play. Giroux made two critical mistakes on the play. He skates to the far post along the goal line with the puck behind the net. He belongs in the high slot both to be a threat offensively and for the back check. Mistake one. Mistake two was not back checking all the way to the net as the first forward back. He starts to glide inside the blueline. He would've had a good chance to prevent the goal if he did.

Really disappointed no one got back to prevent Jonathan Huberdeau from banking in his own rebound. Coots was chasing and I can't remember who else. To me that was a stoppable goal simply through hustle on the off chance that happens.

Yandle made that ill advised pass that started the play the other way, but I thought he hustled back to get back into it. The real magic on that play was Huberdeau was able to corral the rebound with his skate, get the puck to his stick and have the wherewithal to fire the puck back on Hart before he can get reset. It was a really great play there.

Great game played by two really good teams. I was encouraged walking away from this game because Florida is playing great right now, and the Flyers played them better than any team has this season, and that includes Colorado and Tampa. Carter Hart played really well; looked big and confident in the nets. To me the difference is the Flyers had some really good looks to score and failed to do so, for example Coots whiffs on an open net in the first period, and on the PP in the 3rd JVR was right there to bury a rebound off a Coots shot. When you play a really good team, you need to burry your chances, the Flyers didn't and they end up on the short end tonight.

The only thing I was encouraged by was the play of Carter Hart. For the 2nd game in a row, the Flyers got outplayed at 5 on 5 and their top line was outplayed. It was better than the Boston game but the Flyers still aren't playing at the level they need to play at. It's early in the season and they're missing a few key guys so we'll see what happens. Flyers took way too many penalties. One thing that stands out for me is that the 4th line has to stop taking penalties. As a veteran, I don't know what Thompson is thinking there. Clear the net but you can't take the extra shot up high.

Macewen looks like a really solid pickup for the fourth line, exactly what you want out of a guy down there.

Yes, I agree with your points here. One of the things I forgot to mention that really bothered me looking at the metrics from this game is for the 2nd game in the row the opposing team started 65%+ in the Flyers zone. The Flyers just can't continue this play and expect to win against good teams. The Flyers have been good overall in the neutral zone and generating chances off of turnovers, but when the majority of the play is in your own end, you are going to take penalties and eventually a good team is going to make you pay. That sequence by NAK early in the 3rd was really sad. NAK made a great play to split the defense and generate a good scoring chance, but then he swings back around, knees a player and takes a bad penalty. I am really hoping Brown will be back soon because I have seen enough from NAK.

Yes, this was unfortunately because Sanheim was in position there. Risto made a good play to keep the puck to the outside, would have liked to see Sanheim intercept that pass and start the play the other way. As MJL stated correctly, G was not without blame there either.

Risto looks like the same player from Buffalo so far. Another not so strong game from Sanheim. Bottom 6 not doing much at all. Nate and Nak stink.

Samu needs t be sent to juniors. It will be much better for his development. Not sure what the hold up is at this time.

My biggest concern over the last couple of games is the play of the first line. I didn't realize that they were all a -3 last night. Coming off the Boston game in which they were pretty badly outplayed is not starting a good trend here. Not to pin it on one guy, but I'm starting to wonder if Giroux(totally invisible in the Boston game) is really up to playing first line minutes for a 82 game season. At times he seems to be dragging out there. I see Lappy's coaching prowess is rubbing off on the Phantoms.

Through 4 games how many goals has the 4th line produced? Can't wait for the answer

Thompson is an absolute slug. It's ridiculous he was brought back to this team. The hope is when Hayes is ready to play that will push Thompson out of the lineup.

It isnt even about that in a sense. That line as constructed offers nothing. Zac looks ok for what he is being asked to provide.

The bigger issue is that they have none n the phantoms to replace those players. That is sad.

I mean this as a compliment. You are nuts if you think Nate will be taken out of the lineup. Anyone who believes this is nuts. Signed on 1st day of free agency to boot.

Sadly I think Giroux was slacking on the backcheck a bit on that one, Need those few extra strides to try to cut the bank shot off, Harts biggest weakness has been those random plays from behind the net so with that in mind would like to see a bit more there - Power play or not, Cant imagine it was a matter of being exhausted on the shift yet.

He dove to prevent the past, didn’t get it, and in doing so took himself out of the play. Bill called it a lucky bounce but I believe it was huburdeau that stayed with it and fished the puck out to himself.

Probably just drops Brass to 3rd and Laughton is a winger.

Goals 2 and 3 are signes of undisciplined team. That many penalties are the signs of undisciplined team. Shooting a puck from the point on densely populated 6 on 5 is a sign of poor coaching. They definitely have room for improvement.
I dislike pens, but they need to be commended as they are playing disciplined structured hockey even without their stars being available
