Carol Schram: Podkolzin is confident, DiPietro acrobatic as Canucks rookie camp begins Vasily Podkolzin made his long-awaited debut in Canucks colours and goaltender Mikey DiPietro looked like he was in mid-season form as the Canucks prospects hit the ice for the first day of rookie camp on Friday.

I seen one or two clips of Klimovich. Look likes he has a good heavy shot . There was one clip where he made a nice move to shake off a defender.

I also seen Connor Lockhart looked good?

Lockhart is small. Listed at 5'9" 165 on Hockey DB, that might be a bit generous. He did snipe the winner in the 2-on-2 game, right after they were told that the losers were going to have to do a lap. I liked that response!

I seen the play . It is hard to get a good feel seeing most of the reports are 10 second clips of what they are doing right. Thanks for the insight.

To be honest, there wasn't much more to be gleaned even while watching, since the session was mostly drills and instruction.

But on another note — Pettersson just posted a video of driving over the Burrard St Bridge on his IG stories. He's in town!!

I believe Garland is listed 5'10 on NHL.com but he himself has said he is closer to 5'8"

I'm sure there is lots of rounding up and down and such for heights

My cousin met Sam Gagner in Mexico once and my cousin is 5'9" and in the picture, they're the same height. Gagner listed 5'11" on nhl.com right now.

I sort of figured 12 Rookies on the ice would not be too exciting to follow. Training camp can't come fast enough

I will take that as a good sign Petey . Maybe he wants to get things going. Imac is predicting bridge deals which makes a lot of sense .

Was reading Canucksabby twitter saying that Zlodeyev got no ice time today and the team he is loaned too or playing for currently really has no plans develop him really at all.

Faber has also said that Lucas Forsell is also on a really bad team in Sweden.

This is where some you know back door dealings should be going on for talking to BC and AB WHL teams looking at drafting import players of the Canucks like Viktor Persson with Kamloops.

Also comes in handy to have more control of the AHL club.

Agreed, on Petey. If nothing else, it tells me that he wants to make sure he can get going the second the deal is done.

And hopefully it means we're close. It's reassuring when the rumour mill over the last couple of days has suggested that the Hughes deal was closer to being done, whatever that means.

And that DiPietro play was legitimately awesome. I'm glad someone caught that on video.

I think with the Hughes deal being close but not signed had to do with the Pettersson negotiations. It gives the Canucks protection against an offer sheet on EP. Once Petey is signed then they can go ahead and do both deals. Seeing Hughes could not get an offer sheet they can wait to finalize it.

I think we will hear something soon maybe next week when the GM and the agent realize the game of chicken is going nowhere.

Same agents, hard to not do both at once. Id wager next week they both get done. Kids are both in town now, not a hold out situation imo

Neemer, believe Hughes is still in Michigan, but it’s only a short flight away.

As Carol mentioned earlier Petey reporting in from the Burrard Bridge

Someone just asked the question on Twitter was the bridge setting intentional?

He and his brother Jack bought a house in Michigan and he’s been living there all summer. Yesterday he was still home, things could have changed today I suppose.
