It should be interesting at least I don't know who will be worse Arizona or Buffalo. As a buffalo guy I was hoping it would be you guys when you signed Carter Hutton LOL but then Buffalo went out and got Social Security recipients for them instead later that day. It'll be a wild ride for both our fan bases

Nice piece! Great to read some Coyotes info and see how this team shapes up over the next few years. Reminds me a lot of what Ottawa did a few years ago and look where they are now. Plus they hired the right coach to help see this rebuild through in Andre!

I'm not sure Arizona would go for that. They value picks over anything at this point.

I wouldn't be surprised if both teams finish at 2017 Avalanche levels.

Nothing wrong with a rebuild. They have lots of picks to do that. But I’m not sold on the stability of ownership or the arena situation.

Still a lot of pieces to move if you want to tank and rebuild properly. Dzingel, Kessel, and Crouse shouldn't be on the team anymore by Christmas. If they can get something for Gostisbehere by retaining salary, they should move him too.

Curious to hear your thoughts on Fischer. He is more of a 4th line player on this roster or do you see him in the top 6? Ottawa is definitely looking at trying to acquire him.

Here's the thing with the Coyotes. This organization has really been mismanaged since they got here. As an example, when they first arrived, it was the Phoenix Coyotes. Then they changed it to the Arizona Coyotes to try to include those of us in Tucson (about 1:20 south of Phoenix). Then built an arena on the far northwest side of Phoenix making it around a 2 hour drive, without traffic. They have had bad owners that wanted the team salary at the floor, bad GM's and coaches, and battles with the City of Glendale. It's been a clown show. But I don't think the NHL wants them to move. Hockey in Phoenix, and to an extent Tucson, is growing and that's what the NHL wants.
As for the "rebuild", yes, there's nothing wrong with it. Except the Coyotes have basically been in rebuild mode for 20 years. I think Armstrong is going about it the right way though. Stockpiling picks and young talent.
Ownership MIGHT be a bit shaky, but they're owned by 2 billionaires. I think they'll be ok. Which ties into your last point. An arena. They do need to figure out a new arena, and fast. Personally, if they built one in Tempe (which I've heard rumblings about), that would be the best spot. It would be closer to the Phoenix metro area. It would also be closer to Tucson, which would be more inviting. If they get a new arena done long term, then I think the ownership will be fine. Just my 18 cents though.

It absolutely does. But I think they'll inevitably work out a temporary deal to keep them in Glendale until a new arena is built. Or they can just go back to the downtown arena they first started in. Not ideal for hockey since it's a basketball arena, but I'm assuming the ice making equipment is still there.

I'm told that Logan Brown was Fischer's C in Windsor and pretty well made Fischer's junior career. He spoon fed him all season. I hope the Sens and Coyotes make the deal Brown to Arizona

The news has been really disappointing. My company works with a number of the players / upper management so I get free alumni box tickets or players tickets if I ask for them and honestly other than Pittsburgh coming to town I might not even attend a game this season. They’re going to be absolutely brutal with this roster.

Someone was commenting about the Glendale arena out west. They jumped all over that back in the day because it was a smokin deal for them financially and it’s honestly not a bad facility - it’s just a poopty location for hockey. People I’ve talked to say they’re almost for sure playing downtown after this season. IMO there are parking issues downtown but maybe it’ll work out

Really disappointed they decided to go for an all out rebuild and also disappointed about the money issues with ownership. Rumors are it was a bit struggle through COVID

I would also note that I think Toch was an awful coach. I think he held the guys back big time

I’ve heard some talk about moving the franchise to Houston. That would create a good in state rivalry with Dallas. But I don’t see that happening. It seems the NHL sponsors and marketing people want to be in that Phoenix area market. The Tempe arena solution looks like the best option.

They’re definitely building around Chychrun and Keller. They may get something out of Ghost on the power play but he’s bad defensively and 2nd pair minutes are going to expose him. Tough times for the Yotes.

A local writer stated that the move by Glendale was a negotiating tactic. Glendale wants a long-term commitment which apparently the Coyotes are not agreeable to. It has also been reported that Suns ownership does not want the Coyotes to play in their Arena. Allegedly, the Suns view the Coyotes as competitors for limited entertainment dollars. That makes sense and I'm sure nothing would make Suns ownership happier than to see the Coyotes leave Arizona.

I love what GMBA has been able to do so far. I can easily see some of the second round picks being packaged with a player at the trade deadline in order to acquire one or two additional first round picks next year. That gives the Coyotes four or five picks in the first round next year. Even if only three of them hit, that's a great foundation. I can see this team being very competitive in a few years, but that all relies on drafting. Can't afford any more Dylan Strome or Barrett Hayton type picks.
