Kevin Allen: Hurricanes have more risk than Habs, but there is nothing wrong with that Waddell said the offer sheet was about the player, not revenge.

Not about revenge??? LOLOLO!!! Clown show in Carolina. Habs get Dvorak for the price of Kotkaniemi, who should never have been drafted third overall. Bergevin would never be able to fetch a first and a third for this guy. Is there anyone who thinks the Habs aren't a better team today? Hate on Bergevin all you want. Isn't Montreal a better team with Dvorak?? Arguing that makes you sound stupid, just in hockey terms

MTL is slightly better with Dvorak today. Losing KK may come back and bite MB. I think a new team, new system and a new coach will allow him to develop in a solid 2nd or 3rd line center. Agree the risk is worth taking, and we'll see in MTL gave up on him too soon or not.

"Would we have loved to have kept him? Of course," Marc Bergevin, general manager of the Canadiens, said Monday. "But not at $6.1 million and not with Christian Dvorak available to us.": https://www.sportsnet.ca/...mi-not-offer-sheet-price/

Montreal desperately needed a center who could play defense and win a faceoff. They are a better team now.

Well then it’s the worst D core and G duo to ever make a team a contender… what a bad statement

Offer sheeting Aho was Montreal playing the long con. The Habs sat back and waited, and Waddell walked right into the trap. Well played Mr. Bergevin. Well played!!

People need to stop focusing on the 6.1M for ONE year. Everyone knew, including KK, that this was way too much money. That was basically an advance in cash and what CAR needed to do if they wanted MTL to walk away. So unless KK has a phenomenal year, CAR will resign him to a lesser cap hit and that's it. KK's performance will dictate who wins this "trade".

Relax…

The true question is Brady Tkachuk or Dvorak?

All this is pure damage control by Bergevin…

I really believe this has good potential to work out well for both teams.

The kid never really fit into the Montreal locker room. Don't think there is any blame, stuff just happens.

But Carolina has several Finns on their roster, they are playing leadership roles and I expect a much better fit.

throwing him into the league at 18 was also a mistake, not sure if Bergevin wanted to one up on the Senators because they were starting Tkatchuck, but transitionning from the SIM-Liga to the NHL is a huge step.

Perhaps Arizona wins the prize?

I know not very likely but it is possible.

I realize that it can take years to see who won on this, but as of right now, KK, Montreal & Arizona are the clear cut winners, Carolina, what were you thinking!

Agreed. I think they were stuck looking for a seat when the music stopped. I actually believe they were expecting Montreal to match and may not be too happy they didn’t.

they're happy with it. Why would they not be? They've got a talented young Finn who, yes, has struggled for the past couple years, but still has very good potential and will be well insulated in Raleigh.

They still have an exceptionally deep prospect pool, and Kotkaniemi himself is young enough that he can be considered a prospect himself.

Pretty sure KK could potentially break out with Carolina. Needless to say the pressure is all but nothing down there. If a player does something stupid on the ice, a bad play, a turnover etc They wont talk about it for weeks like they do in MTL. However KK will have to prove his worth and show consistency otherwise he'll be locked on the wing on the bottom 6 and this will prevent him from achieving said break out. Furthermore if KK does not show production on a regular basis, it could become a nightmare when Waddell needs to sign Necas who will 100% use KK as a comparable.
