Jay and I had been friends and colleagues since he first arrived in Philadelphia from Kansas City in 1975 to cover the Flyers and NHL for the Philadelphia Bulletin and later Philadelphia Daily News. He will be sorely missed. RIP Jay.

Having recently suffered a family loss, this really hits home. 71 is too young to pass. It's very upsetting. Thanks for sharing Bill and I'm sorry for your loss. It is your loss for his family and all that knew him. Also for the hockey community. When he wrote the blogs on here, they were one of a kind. A special style of writing that included both humor and a deep knowledge of the sport. Nobody else could write in that unique style. I feel for his wife and his children. I'm also aware of the huge toll it takes on loved ones caring for a sick family member. It takes a huge chunk out of you. It's a loss that they will never recover from but will only learn to carry with them. The world was a better place with Jay in it.

Nothing much to add than it's a tremendous loss to not only the Flyers, but the hockey world in general.

I'm sorry for your loss Bill. Rest easy Jay.

Wonderful Tribute, Bill! Condolences to the Greenberg family as well as you and all his colleagues. Always enjoyed Mr. Greenberg’s works, especially Full Spectrum and Flyers at 50! He did a wonderful job writing about hockey and covering the Flyers. Rest In Peace.

Thank you. The same goes out to everyone. None of us get to escape the hurt of loss. We all have to go through it. Until you experience it, you don't truly understand it. It's why even the loss of someone I've never met and knowing what their family has gone through, hits home.

Thank you, Bill, for a wonderful tribute to Jay. I always looked forward to his posts no HB. His unique style of writing, weaving historical references into very funny commentary to tell a story of current events, was truly entertaining and informative.

May God rest your soul, Jay! Thank you for enriching all of us who read your work.

Damn sorry to hear of Jay’s passing. He was, by far, the best journalist to ever work the Flyers beat and his books were a wonderful resource to me when I was doing research for my book.

Rest In Peace.

I too grew up reading Jay Greenberg and was very sad when he left. He was the dean of Flyers coverage. In the words of Lou Nolan, tonight's 3 star selection is made by Jay Greenberg.......
