It’s funny. Apparently Nylander can’t produce without an elite centre, but when he does there’s some other excuse. Weird. Almost as if some people just hate the guy no matter what. - Steven_Seagull
I had a problem with him for holding out a few years ago. The more I've thought about it though, that's a Dubas issue. |

We will never win with soft players like Willie.
Isn’t Marner soft?
Yeah but he scores a ton of points.
But hasn’t Marner struggled to score the last few playoffs?
Yeah but he is a top scorer in the regular season so he will eventually score in the playoffs.
But didn’t Willie just score a lot in the playoffs?
Yeah but he is soft. |

“Willie is so soft he only scores from the perimeter.”
Willie starts scoring goals from the “tough to play” areas.
“Willie only scores the easy tap ins from in close”

There’s a big difference between their styles. Marner is a known good defensive player, Willy avoids contact at all costs. I hope Ritchie plays with AM/MM, he could become our Wilson. Mitch seems to embrace scrums etc more than Willy. Mitch is just a smaller guy too.

It took Willy 6 years to become that front net presence. He is good in close tho. |

Marner avoids contract so much, he throws the puck over the glass when nobody is even close to him.
If you hate a soft Willie, you should equally hate Microsoft Mitch or a limp Mitchkit or a Meatslinky Marner...your choice AA. |

I’m not Marners public image manager. He definitely seemed to crack under pressure this year in the playoffs. Maybe he could improve if he hired a sports psychologist? But you guys need to stop trying to compare everything Marner does to everything Willy does. They’re two different players, with different skill sets. Marner is on a different level, he brings more to the table overall. That’s why he gets paid more, but unless he lives up to his contract the criticism is warranted. Nylander is starting to live up to his contract. He put his big boy pants on this year and accepted that he has to go to the dirty areas to get the most out of his game. He’s still a wimp, and doesn’t stand up to anyone, but at least he’s willing to go to the front of the net now. That being said, I still don’t think the $7mil it costs to pay him is money well spent. The Leafs don’t need his offence, they could spend that on a PP QB Dman, a legit 3C, or a 1LW.. |

Nylander looks very lazy at times as does Marner, just not as much - So appearance wise Nylander looks a lot more aloof out there (no intensity). Their styles are absolutely different. Marner is a darter/slasher type player. Nylander is not. He relies on flow more.
Nylander floats more for sure.
They both avoid contact at all costs. Very soft.
Marner kills penalties well because he is really gifted at anticipating plays. Mixed with his offensive talent that makes him a threat. He is not a good defensive player though. He’s bad tracking through zones (on way back to defensive end) and looses his man/positioning and puck battles a lot in his own end. Good PK player but even strength not very good defensively.
Nylander is terrible defensively in any situation. Just bad and lazy without the puck.
I do not like either player but value for output - I’d say Nylander is a better ‘keep’. |

Similar to your issues with Willie, I have mine with Marner. Well really, I have the same with all soft players. I wish Willie hit more, Marner hit more...all of them hit more.
The biggest difference for me is about $4M in cap between the two. For that I expect Marner to more consistent and better under pressure....kinda more like Patty Kane.
I watch other team's player's throwing hits and go "oh yeah, nice hit!", I watch our guys getting hit and go "oh no, hope they're not hurt". It's so annoying. |

I don’t even care if they hit tbh, just don’t be afraid to get pissed off and show some emotion. But I agree, I’m always worried they’ll get hurt because they’re both inexperienced with contact. I had hopes that Mitch could be the next Kane, but I’m starting to think that massive contract stunted his growth. He doesn’t have to work for it.

I was screaming NEI (NO) at that moment.
He has never lost to Benjamin, 3-0 now.
45.94 is just insane. Take away the hurdles and that's a 42 time... |
