I'd personally rather see them spend that money at C. Pavelski, Tarasenko, and Palat will be getting too much attention from serious playoff teams, they shouldn't want any part of Kessel (unless he comes with Dvorak, and it's really Dvorak you want), and I don't even know what the point is of Nichushkin or Sheary. Colin White would be a better RW option, so it's really not a good use of cap space.

As for Boeser, well first off he's not really a power forward. He's a good skater, has a great shot, and is a solid top-6 RW, but there's not much of a power game there. I'd even suggest that Batherson is already considerably more of a power forward, as he's 2 inches taller, 20lbs heavier, had 3x the hits last year, and will make a hard drive to the net just as often, if not more so.

Plus, the worst past of Boeser is his contract. He's making $7.5M of real salary this year, which means the qualifying offer on his next contract will have to start around that level. Now maybe you could negotiate some kind of long-term deal where the salary drops later on to lower the AAV, but that's also assuming that he'd sign for more than a couple years on his next RFA deal. And if he has a bad year (which is quite possible, not having a Pettersson to set him up), I'd want no part of having to pay Chabot-type money just to not lose Boeser for nothing.

Palat isn't going anywhere for cap reasons. Thanks to Seattle and Chicago taking Gourde and Johnson, and the Seabrook zombie contract, the Lightning are close to a full roster (Colton last unsigned) and are under the cap. If Palat goes, it won't be because of the cap, and I don't see him wanting to go anywhere.

Again, these were all players mentioned as potential targets. Just something to think about now that the free agency frenzy is over.

Apparently Kessel with his signing bonus already paid. Gonna cost just 850k. Great deal for Melnyk

Kessel + Dvorak vs Brannstrom + Tierney + Tampa 2rnd

- Crosside

I was just reading how the Leafs retained 1.2 million of his salary going back to 2015, totally forgot about that! He is in the final year of his 8 year deal that he originally signed in Toronto, just nuts!

As a reader pointed out, Kessel is only making 850k in real money but a huge cap hit. As we all know, management loves that! So ya, package Kessel with Dvorak. At least with Sheary or Connolly they are under 30 years of age, small cap hit too.

As for Boeser, like I mentioned in the article, thought it would be neat to see what RW Ottawa could target. Makes for great discussion.

I really like Pinto's game a lot.

I do too. I still don't know what type of player he will translate too though. Does he have top six potential? Or will be be a top 9 / Middle six player.

His faceoff ability was terrific in the last 10 games for a rookie, plus played a solid 200 foot game. Naturally as he gets stronger, in the weight room, etc....he will develop even more. Which is why the team seems to want him in the AHL for a full year, now that he got a taste of NHL action to end the season when the games had no meaning. It was a perfect situation. Truly wish they had of given JBD the same rope too, to end the season.

Something has to give with their current D. I will touch on it later in the week in a piece. Working on a few things right now for tomorrow's piece, while balancing my job and the family today. Been great having this holiday Monday.

kyle okposo would look great in a sens jersey

I think he would look great in a Wings jersey if he comes with the Sabres 2022 1st round pick

The wings could definitely use some RW help.

Another RW whose name might come up is Kevin Labanc, who the Sharks were reported to be trying to move. It would be a $4.7M cap hit for the next 3 seasons, but the Sharks might be willing to eat some of the remaining contract, and still make a very 'affordable' deal to save most of the cap space.

Alternatively, it wouldn't be hard to envision a larger deal for Hertl/Labanc, in order to address the C issue as well. I could see the Sharks being interested in some affordable D depth, given the $26.5M/yr AAV they have to spend on Karlsson/Burns/Vlasic for the next 4 years.

What if the @Senators not extending Tkachuk continues to opening night. Brady takes warmups then stands at centre ice. Glass shatters, out comes Eichel and M. Tkachuk in #Sens jerseys. Brady rips his jersey in half to reveal the C and announces 8 year deal. Sens beat Leafs 12-0. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Focus needs to be on a C. I’m assuming Brannstom is the piece that’s going. The problem at RW is self made by moving Dadonov. That’s a nice list of names, but you can scratch off anyone with a no trade clause, they are highly unlikely to be coming to Ottawa.

This plan of shaving off every last dollar and targeting one year ‘meh’ veterans needs to end at some point. I’m not saying go all in, but add some legitimate skill please.

The Sharks tried to unload Labanc at the deadline. But I am not sure Ottawa wants 3 years left on his deal. With Henrique the only way they do it is if the Ducks eat half of his salary. But it's a great name to bring up. Great for discussion.

As a previous user posted on the discussion, if you could do Kessel plus Dvorak, then it's worth it!

If Brady isn't signed soon, every Sens fan will wonder what is going on. No way they can wait til opening night.

Very true! Which is why players that are young, with 1 or 2 years on their deal and affordable salary is what Ottawa will look at. Sheary or Connelly!

Claude Giroux back to ottawa as he can play wing or centre
- bosman

So I will say this, it's pretty wild that you mention Giroux. He has one year left on his current deal and I was told 2 weeks ago, look for Philly to move him this season as they know he won't be re-signing come next season. Ottawa guy who has a house in Carp too, I am telling you the idea of Giroux in a Sens uniform has been floated by management!

Wings don't need him, they have enough wingers and more coming. What they do need is centers with top 6 or more like top line potential. No way Buffalo would give their 1st round pick to move Okposo...they don't need the cap space at all. They might as well keep him and send him in the minors if they need the roster spot or buy him out next off-season.

If Giroux is genuinely available and would be open to an extension, he'd be my #1 target... the only guy really fitting the bill as a valuable veteran #1 guy, who can still play at a high level, and provide quality leadership to a young team. Hopefully the local connection is enough to bring him home.

The Pens are also in desparate need of RW help. Not the position, but in blogger help. Ryan Wilson needs help, can someone offer assistance?
