Another thing with the Rangers, which we might not want to think about, is that there is a real possibility that some of these young guys like Laf, Kakko, Krav, Miller, Nils, Schneider, etc. don't live up to our lofty expectations. We saw how Skjei regressed after looking really good early on. Throwing it way back, Petr Prucha was similar. I don't worry about Fox but some of the other guys, while they look good/great so far, could struggle to progress past where they are now so we don't want to empty to cupboard because we're slotting guys in as definites in roles that they've never played in before. - SkjeiStadium
It's actually almost a certainty. The odds would be pretty overwhelming that everyone lives up to the hype.
Petr Prucha was my fav player that year. I also loved York, who wasn't a one hit wonder like Prucha, but kinda fell a little short of the after first year hype himself

Petr Prucha was only 5'10", so that was expected |

The only one besides Fox that I'm very confident will be a top line player is Laf.
Kakko and Krav to me look very good, and Kakko made a lot of strides this year, but it remains to be seen if they can produce consistently. Miller looked great last year, but definitely struggled a bit once Trouba went down so how much of that was him being aided by Trouba vs him being a legit top pairing dman? It's probably a bit of both and maybe he settles in at more of a 2nd/3rd pairing dman. There's nothing wrong with that but if you pencil him in as the top pairing dman and make moves based on that, it could come back to bite you.
Hopefully they all do exactly what we hope and we become true contenders because of it but there's still a lot of unknowns to make drastic moves with such certainty. It's why I'm a big proponent of not making any major moves this offseason. Let's see how things shake out. |

I think Trouba/Miller probably should already be our 2nd pairing, no? Lindgren-Fox has just been that good IMO

We’re getting into a TonyD debate? Or just guna leave it alone so we don’t drag it on for 7 pages? The stats would support you couldn’t have TonyD and Fox come playoff time, the only argument would be TonyD plays a physical game more built for the playoffs vs Nils playing a soft finesse game more built for the regular season. I’m willing to leave it at that or we can drag it on for 5 more pages - nyrangers9479
Ah so if your under 6ft and can throw a body check but be a horrible in your own end is ok then. |

you have to also be able to fight with fans of your team on the internet and be disciplined by every team, junior or pro, you've ever played for. that's what playoff hockey is all about |

I think the 2021-22 Ranger blueline is set, I think Hajek will be moved still if they find a taker, Bitetto will be in camp thought I doubt he's even in AHL mix
Zac Jones and Tarmo Reunanen are trade bait
of the forwards still on the roster I think Strome and Gauthier will be traded |

It's really too bad that there are no centers that are forcing their way to NY ala Trouba/Fox. Would really help with this whole situation |

Might not be a short term solution but thoughts on Jack Drury? He was born in NY, Chris Drury's nephew. Harvard guy that played the last year in Sweden. He just signed with Carolina but if we could make a deal for him that could give us another long term answer at C |

Feel like there's be too much conflict if interest there. I mean at least if your a Sutter you're going to get traded away, not traded for |

You mean the guy Jimmy wondered, what 50+ times, why we didn't draft him in the 2nd round in 2018?
It's a valid suggestion, and I like Drury's game, but I just don't see how they acquire him. |

That could definitely be the case. To be honest I was really just looking through the past few drafts to see guys that may be in college that may stay the 4 years like Hayes or threaten it like Fox to get to FA. I didn't find many besides maybe John Beecher and obviously Drury's name stuck out to me. |

fair. And don't worry I won't be spamming the board with mock proposals for Drury or creating lineups that include him. Was just curious others thoughts on him and thought it was an interesting idea |

Was just posting on the Sabres blog to see what they would want for Eichel. Lot's of people with crazy offers but some pretty reasonable ones. Got me thinking. In a completely hypothetical situation where we had a pipeline of centers, if we were to trade Zib tomorrow, what would be the return you all expect for him?
I think everyone suffers from the endowment effect (cue joke by Jim) where we overvalue our own players and undervalue other players. I'm not asking for actual names, but for instance the ask for Eichel was the equivalent of 4 firsts, what would you be happy with for Zib? |

I’d hope for a promising prospect that projects in the top 6, a roster player and a first. Maybe an additional pick. The prospect or roster player would have to be center to replace Zib.
The idea of requiring each piece be a “first round pick” is silly. Why not go for talent over draft pedigree in the players? |

I think that's reasonable. The ask was four "first round equivalents" so not necessarily players that were drafted in the first round. Adam Fox is worth more than a first rounder even though he was a 3rd round pick, for example |

Isn’t Fox worth more than four first rounders?
To think we got him for as little as we did is so awesome |

if Buffalo had Adam Fox and he was trying to force a trade after winning the Norris, their fans would insist on the same crazy packages they are insisting on for Eichel
it wouldn't be anything different

Fox was drafted by Calgary and he told them he wouldn't ever play a game for them so they packaged him and Hamilton (who had worn out his welcome in the community and locker room) to Carolina for Hanafin and Lindholm. Those 2 have done pretty well as returns. NYR traded a 2nd and cond 3rd for Fox... I think value so far has been fairly competent. Especially considering he said basically from day 1 he would only play for the Rags. Left a lot of teams to be stuck. Cal got some additional value for him and Carolina got something out of it. No one got nothing. |
