The Jake deal years ago was a STEAL.
I think they had to prepare him to leave and he was ready to go thus a change of locations for guys in their 30s.
Jake doesn't score many goals but he's still a solid first line player.
Cam is a small player but he also has a smaller cap hit which might allow Fletch some more room to re-shape the team even more.
He needs to sign Hart who he should be able to get a discount on after that mess of a season last year. Ellis and Risto will surely help.
I am OK with this move. |

Wow this is a huge win for the Flyers. Biggest need after psychical D was scoring on the Wing. I wonder if Philly had to retain salary? |

this deal JUST happened but I didn't see anybody on NHL Network or on a handful of sites say we ate any money.
That is likely the best part of the deal.

Honestly the trade is kind of a wash. I think Voracek has a little more upside. Atkinsons has been a tire-fire since he signed his contract. I'm glad Columbus got rid of it. |

Jake is a good player that does some things that are head scratchers.
He gets frustrated at times and makes terrible plays.
The flyers needed a culture change in the locker room and JV was one of the guys that could be moved.
The flyers save money towards the cap.
Looks like one of those traded that benefit both sides. |

It is an awful trade, period.
Some people are suggesting that this is to help Laine play better, with a guy who can feed him the puck. Or others are saying that the team decided to discard the old team leaders in the locker room and start anew.
None of these reasons make any sense. You trade for a player you got rid of years ago, you trade a leader of the CBJ for a guy who costs more in salary, will be around for a year less, and will probably leave at the same time Laine leaves for the West Coast. Most importantly, you trade him in the division where the CBJ play Atkinson at least 4 times a year, and more if they ever make the playoffs again in the 21st Centry
The only upside is that the CBJ lose a year or two of Atkinson's salary on a contract that might be longer than the player's ability to play at a high level.
Unless Voracek turns into a 100 point per year player during his three years in Columbus this trade is awful on every level. It's worse than the Indians becoming the laughing stocks of MLB with the worse team name and logo in professional sports (along with not hitting and pitching, where they fit in with the CBJ quite well). |

Not to pile on, but Voracek has 3 years left on his contract, not 2.

Jake returning to Columbus seemed inevitable, Unfortunately Columbus seems to have an issue getting talent to stay, and he's under contract, puts up points and Columbus needed some top line players. Surprised Philly got Atkinson out of it as he surprisingly could address some needs - Leadership, speed and scoring on the wing so as I Philly fan I'm happy with the move, Jake really is a heck of a guy, great interview, honest, and the teammates loved him here, Hopefully he has a good few years in Columbus. |

Your team is trying to play at the cap floor and right now you needed more salary to make it there. |

Jarmo Kekaleinen: we want players who want to stay in Columbus
Also Jamro Kekaleinen: I'll trade the guy who has a home, family , deeply involved in the community and bled for this team for the past 10 years
Yesterday he was on a roll , why the sudden brain fart , is one more year really that much trouble. I liked Jake and all during his formative years , but at this stage he's meh ....I'm thinking the hope is that he feeds Laine for goals because we sure as hell ain't getting a center. |

I still don't see any money eaten in this trade which makes me like it better as Cap Space is the 2021 asset of choice. |

this could be a trade that works out well for both teams.
Voracek is a premium passer and playmaker. Even in his early thirties, he still possesses great speed and has been pretty durable and healthy during his tenure in Philly. He should make a difference in Laine's game and will provide leadership to a young CBJ team.
I think the two main factors he was traded was to change team chemistry and his contract had become too rich and burdensome for the Flyers.
Columbus has no cap problems and are getting a quality player.
The Flyers have a lot of pass first type players and were desperate for a shoot first type where Atkinson will help. The cap saving of almost 3 million is also huge for the Flyers as they can address other needs this summer.
Like I said, I think this deal is good for both teams

CBJ's GM should be fired for making this trade. The Flyers always seem to be able to weasel out of their bad contracts. |
