Love this move. Atkinson will be a good addition for the Flyers. A fan favourite for both teams going either way. New Look Flyers are seeming strong.

Love this deal. And happy for Jake to return to where it all started for him.
Atkinson is a battler...solid move by Fletch.

Same age or almost. The better player is definitely Voracek, still putting up points, 6’2 skilled winger.

Atkinson is 5’8, speedy winger but I totally don’t see him as an upgrade beside the cap hit.

Jake is good but the mix was off. didn’t work for 10 years. That’s the upgrade.

If this is a one for one trade Philly wins this hands down. They get the player that competes every night and a lower cap hit.

The poor leadership in the flyer room needed to change and voracek was one of the leaders.

I don’t know. Have to see what will come back for Voracek when he’s traded with money retained.

But I don’t see this as an upgrade. Voracek is the better player between both (without the cap issue)

Bad trade for philly. I agree in a shake up but an already undersized team is now completely undersized upfront.

This is an insane and inane deal by JK and the CBJ. They traded their #2 offensive player and one of the best players the franchise has ever had for a guy they got rid of years ago. To top it off they trade him in the division, so he will run all over the CBJ 4 times a year.

Whether they flip/trade Voracek for more assets is immaterial. This is a stupid trade and the GM and even recently rehired JD should be fired for it.

Jake is bigger but he isn't physical. They also saved $2.4M on the cap. They can use elsewhere.

Bigger/heavier is a big positive. Yes, Jake isn’t a “physical player” but still more so than Atkinson. Easy to play against before even easier less heavy now

Disagree. It’s a great trade for Philly. While Atkinson is small, the trade was made to gain cap space and additional speed in the lineup. Seeing what Chuck has accomplished in the past several days, I have no doubt he will sign an UFA or two with size and grit (Kurtis Gabriel comes to mind).

A Gabriel who will most likely be a 12/13 forward who when plays will average 6 minutes TOI a game isn’t of any relevance at all. They need a gritty top 9 forward ie: Goodrow or Coleman

I like this deal more for the cap ramifications. Jake, when used to his best, is a puck carrying bear. He has some very good half wall skills, a wicked wrist shot and excellent passing skills. He has two gears, engaged or not. When he was first brought over Lavy got him to engage on the 3rd line with Cooter. He has since become and offensive force at the expense of his defensive game.

Adding Adkinson gives the Flyers more first step speed and two way play in the top six. He has been an effective penalty killer and threat on the PK. No, he isn't as big as Jake, but he plays a gnatlike game that makes him seem larger.

This will be very interesting to see how it all plays out.

I said a UFA or two. Yes, Goodrow or Coleman-type players are essential. But you also need a deterrent in the lineup when things get ugly. If not Gabriel, I’d like to see the Flyers try and sign Ross Johnston. Flyers have needed someone in the lineup to deter division meatheads like Wilson, etc.

NYI was a playoff team & Johnston only dressed in 12 games. They clearly didn’t think his services were needed. Gabriel only played 11 for one of the worst teams in the NHL. Those guys are strictly enforcers with zero ability to play and contribute at level needed. The Coleman’s & Goodrows have the skill needed to be effective skill/grit guys

Flyers definitely need to be tougher to play against though I agree. Just not necessarily in the drop the gloves sense

Fletch mentioned on more than one occasion this off season that the Flyers need to change their identity. Being a soft team with a bright spot or two sprinkled in the lineup ain’t cuttin’ it. Flyers need a dose of nasty in the lineup.

Risto has nasty in him. But yes, they need to be tougher but a guy who plays 5 minutes a night doesn’t do enough to move the needle.

Out muscled. So trade a heavy big body Jake for a smaller Atkinson. Doesn’t make sense. I agree need to be tougher to play against & I’m all for moving Jake but not to get another small player
