Francis says he wants to keep his cap space, then takes yanne gourde for 5 mil off of the lightning roster. People will tell you anything to justify doing what they do.

None of the available players with zero cap hit were any good.

They are also still below the cap floor and not intending to go dramatically above it entering their first season, although they'll try to add a couple pieces. Why do you think they took so many AHL-destined players in the Expansion Draft?

Bill,

Looks like D'Angelo is being bought out. Right shot defensman. Might be able to get on a short prove it deal as he missed all of last season. I know he has baggage but is it worth a shot? Wanted your thoughts. Feel like you could be getting a pretty motivated player.

Bill do you think the current coaching staff gave Ghost a fair shake?

Flyers are looking for a physical shutdown D with some size to pair with Sanheim. DeAngelo doesn't fit that description. If they end up with Braun on 2nd pair rather than the third pair (which I hope they do not), perhaps I could see DeAngelo taking a "RHed Ghost role" on the third pair if they think York needs AHL time.

Overall, though, I don't think that's how they'll go as a Plan A course.

No. The coaching was atrocious last season. AV was pushing buttons randomly and much too quickly as if he had no coaching experience at all.

Really puzzling as AV is a very good coach. Last year was abysmal.

If Braun or Hagg are anywhere near the 2nd pair (outside a game or 2 due to injury) this off season was a complete failure.

Yes. Ghost is responsible for his own play, the same as every player. After he came back from COVID, he was played decently on D early in the season but struggling to produce much offensively despite being paired with Provorov. Then Ghost had some major defensive struggles just as his offense started to come around. After he spent a stint as a healthy scratch and later cleared waivers, I think he played some of his best all-around hockey since 2017-18 in the latter part of the season.

Don't forget, though: Ghost had more downs than ups plus knee issues for two straight years and inconsistency this season. He did beat out Gustafsson for playing time this past season, and did get a look again as Provorov's partner. He also eventually reclaimed a PP1 spot. A big part of the reason why he'd lost the PP1 gig in the first place was an extended period where he was missing the net wildly with regularity. He finally started regaining his shooting confidence again, and got rewarded for it.

I don't think Ghost was ever mistreated. Not by Hak when he was scratched a few times in his second NHL year or when the Provorov-Ghost pair was broken up about a month into 2018-19 because what they had going the year before simply wasn't carry over. I don't think he was misused or mistreated by Gordon or Rick Wilson after Gord Murphy and then Hak were out following Hexy's dismissal. I also don't think Ghost got a raw deal from AV/Yeo because there was a prolonged struggling period in there due to injury and performance. Correspondingly, there was not much remaining leash to work through the downturn. To his credit, I think he DID work through it.

I wish Shayne nothing but success in Arizona. I like the player and I like the person. But he's never been an excuses guy, which is also to his credit, and I'm not going to blame the coaches for the years and partial seasons where he noticeably struggled in one way or another. All I will say is that, when he's on, the pros outweigh the cons in my book. When he's not, they don't.

Me neither, but Im GUESSING there are some questions about his skating (aaaaagain) and his knee injury that lost him so much time.

Personally if he is not there I want Lysell. This team needs an injection of burners with high end skill. Two way game be damned.

I do not think he was mistreated at all as well. My opinion is AV and staff didn't like him. Every chance they had to "bury" him they did. On a very short leash compared to others.

The bold you can apply to many.

Go for the homerun. It doesn't work oh well. Tired of the 2nd line "upside"

I had him off the board before 13th in the mock. There were fairly limited viewing opportunities for scouts on him this season but he keeps scoring whenever he's been able to show what he can do.

If he's there at 13th, I don't know that I'd call it falling, though. He's just outside the group that is absolute lock for the top eight or nine picks (for which the ranking order varies widely within) and he's in the next group for whom there's a wide variety of ranking orders. It only takes one name higher on the list -- or two teams to take goalies in the top 12 -- for him to be there.

I am interested to see what Detroit does. They have so many players to sign . Stevie Y is pretty crafty, could they be a partner for JVR or even a Braun / Haag.
Possibly the Ducks for a JVR plus one of the mentioned Dman for upcoming UFA Manson.
Perhaps Manson would get more at deadline, but their roster seems to be pretty bare.

Would the Devils have possible interest in a JVR? I think there is a deal somewhere for Fletcher involving these players. Jake would be great, but the way things are looking he does seem to be unmovable .

There's a difference, though, between 2nd line upside and "top six" upside (versus top-nine upside, which basically means bonafide top line is probably above his likely development path).

I would pass, not tough enough IMO. We don't need a defenseman like D'Angelo right now.

Just frustrating that they take a 5 mil bottom 6er from the cap strapped Stanley cup champs, then pick a marginal player from us when Jvr was cheaper than gourde and would have still been the krakens highest profile selection behind giordano

Oh Hell no on Braun on the 2nd pair. He is at best a 3rd pairing defenseman that can give you 2nd unit PK duty. As we saw last season, when you try to get more from him, he gets exposed badly. Fletcher has to get a top 4 physical defenseman this offseason!
