If i'm not mistaken, the spike in salary beginning year 3 makes it far more interesting for the Rangers cap wise to buy him out after a few years if it really doesn't work out. More salary to be bought out = less cap hit on the buyout usually.

So he might be harder to trade, but easier to buy out. Let's see how it plays out.

Schedule:

Rangers are home and have a nice break for Christmas.
Florida is a nice place to be for New Years too!
Start and end the season with the Caps.
Curious to see if the NHL will allow players to participate in the Olympics or just give the players a long mid-season break...

I am still holding out hope for a big trade involving a player like Josh Norris, Bo Horvat or Ryan O'Reilly coming to Rangers. Acquiring Eichel will ruin us, but I really don't think he gets moved by Sabres this year.

Really disappointed by the lack of activity league-wide today, lets hope the craziness is tomorrow at the draft.

LETS GO RANGERS!

I’m truly baffled by people saying Goodrow is a bad signing. The guy can play up and down the lineup and bring something we’re lacking. Sucks to see Buch go but the numbers just don’t support keeping him unfortunately, he’s really turned into a great 200 ft hockey player.

and then you get idiots who say "looks like the Rangers don't have a plan, just throwing crap on the wall to see what sticks"

how is that even possible in this case?

they absolutely have a plan here and that's to supplement their wealth of good young finesse forwards with some gritty vets

they targeted this guy months ago, gave up a late pick to get his rights ahead of time and nailed it down

I'd say the last comment anyone should have is "they don't have a plan"

maybe people dont like the plan, but they have one

Goodrow buyout is very manageable, this would be summer of 2024 buyout

It had better include more than one guy who can play that type of game. Can't pay them all the same amount, but one won't do. I didn't see that type of game from Barron in his brief opportunity last year, and Rooney doesn't play quite the same style the Rangers said they need. Guys like Garnet Hathaway on cheap contracts with a little bit of term would help balance the roster.

He'd be a good get if he's not looking for a Goodrow-type contract. I was wondering about the cost (it couldn't have been 1st rounders) to have Seattle select Nic Dowd or Hathaway from Washington and flip them to the Rangers, or if Francis was trying to avoid pissing off too many GMs by doing those types of deals (assuming Drury was even interested).

I understand overpaying a bit to get the player we wanted, but seems like he had Drury over a barrel. Not a good look for his first FA signing.

he's such a comparable player to Clutterbuck and he got Clutterbuck money

The term and NTC is what bothers me. Almost like there was no negotiation, just a list his agent submitted and Drury stamped.

Clutterbuck and Cizikas both signed similar deals on the ones that just expired. I don't get the outrage by some over Goodrow deal. Not to mention they signed their deals years ago.

Isn’t it a 15 team NTC? By years 2-3 the cap should be going back up again

That's a good point and something I was thinking about as well. The money is going to be a little up compared to 5 years ago regardless of the flat cap. It's going to be the higher end players that are going to take a sharper cut (I think).

Even the people who say "hate the contract" every single damn one of them say "i love the player though"

So people are going to hate on the Rangers spending 800k more than his worth. Cause people are delusional if they don't think he was getting 2.7-3 million as a free agent per year. The whole thing makes me laugh a little.

Going into tonight this is how we look, after tonight I think it’s going to look much different

Panarin Strome Buch
Laf Zib Kakko
Kreider Goodrow/Chytil Kravtsov
Barron Rooney Gauthier

My guess is Gauthier Chytil Strome Buch will all be gone by tomorrow

I give that maybe 30 games before it changes.

Why would it change? If people expect him to score 20 plus goals they are delusional too

Because you are dealing with lunatics.

I know what he is and what reasonable expectations are, the twitter lynch mob is another story.

Yeah, because if Drury doesn't get a deal to his liking for a center, the pick at 15 might be helpful down the road. I was listening to an interview with a guy who focuses on goalie prospects for the draft, and he explained in convincing detail why he thought Cossa was going to be the best -- by a large margin -- of the netminders, not just in this draft. Seems if the Rangers make the pick it's either a center, or maybe one of the goalies.
