Hearing just a matter of 8 years with a trade and 7 years without...Leafs won't match. How will they replace him? |

He's a UFA so can only go 7 and Toronto can't match. |

Why would they trade for him if he is just gonna sign with them. Yes, we know he is signing here, but let's give Toronto an asset so we are stuck with a longer term |

The extra year would drop the cap hit. Is the only reasoning. |

Looks like Hyman wants the 8th year and Edm doesn’t mind giving it to him. So they need to acquire his bird rights hence a trade with the leafs. If they wait until he becomes UFA then (a) he can only get 7 yrs and (b) Edm is now bidding with other teams. |

He can go 8 if it's a sign-and-trade. |

A longer term would be at a lower AAV. |

Imagine the team we'd have if 4 players weren't hogging the entire cap space. I love that Toronto is setting an example of how to blow a rebuild, this team had so much promise when they drafted all these guys .... and now look, struggling to fill out the roster with NHL calibre players on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th line, its (frank)ing pathetic .... hey look, Boston just got Hall for 6m .... can female dogells 11 million dollar goal compete against that? I think I might skip the whole watching 82 games thing next season, the season finale is always the same anyways. |
