Bill Meltzer: NHL Expansion Draft Day

Bill. Always working to keep us fans informed and up to date. Thank you for your efforts. Any idea what type of goalie or A/1A situation they are lining up for next year?

The media really annoys the piss out of me. They reported this shoulder thing like it was gospel. In typical media fashion, they failed to actually investigate anything, took the word of some "source" somewhere, and ran with it.

Its a wonder anyone trusts them for ANY reason. I certainly don't.

My final ED guess is Ghost or Hagg. Ghost, though not consistent, offers a talent that no other team is really exposing. Hagg on the other hand is probably our cheapest/most serviceable offering.

I don’t think Jake or JVR are getting picked without other teams getting involved.

Seems like a no nonsense hockey player to me. Does a press conference because he has to and wants to get it over. Just wants to get his family settled and play hockey.

It really depends how much they like Ghost in relation to Dunn, Schultz, Barrie and Subban. I could see them taking a couple of established offensive D... not more than that, tho.

Barring trades, I think chances are really high that they take Giordano, Dunn, Bean, and Lauzon. Cal Foote, Stecher and Borgen are also high probability. They probably grab a young D off the Ducks, too.

Word is they're talking to Hamilton and Larsson now too.

Someone like Bean is a no brainer. There are some really good players. They get to pick 30 so it's going to be a combination of team building and of assets they can flip.

I will go with Ghost. His best years were with Hakstol and then injuries occurred. I think coaches tend to really favor players that have flourished under them and then fallen into disfavor elsewhere.

Could be a wild next few days for us and the whole NHL. I’m excited and nervous. I have faith in Fletcher unlike a large portion of this fan base.

I’m curious to see if that Jake-Tarasenko rumor actually has legs. I also hope Seattle doesn’t take a random person like Rubstov. Would prefer it’s someone that helps us some cap on them.

Wouldn't be surprised if CAR pulls a side deal to protect Bean.

Same w/ Boston and Lauzon.

I don’t mind losing Hagg if we can do the Tarasenko deal but the worse case scenario for me is them taking Hagg and no other deal being made, which was my prediction from day 1.

Im a Voracek guy so it pains me to see him go lol but if we move him for Tarasenko and he’s healthy, our goal scoring balance improves. One thing for sure is there’s more changes coming to our defense. I could see Seattle taking Braun, Hagg or Ghost. Plus, I could see one traded as well like Hagg if Fletcher makes another trade for a dman or goes to free agency.

I don't hold any ill will towards Voracek. It's a strictly business decision. Need to start over a tad. Tarasenko is a high risk high reward maneuver.

I believe it is gonna be Jake or JVR. Kraken are gonna be starved for offense and they are likely to take one of the two. Although, a 3 way for one of those involving Tarasenko is an intriguing possibility. Ghost seems to be a pariah throughout the league so I don’t see it.

If Francis can’t swing some deals, he could end up with Giordano and DeMelo as a 1st pair. You would think with Hakstol’s rep for roster building, they can do better than that.
