Good trade for both. I just think it should have been less given for Leddy as he was a salary dump as well. But the Wings need yet another LD and they are not exactly clamoring to sign with Detroit. So, it is what it is.

Leddy did have close to 30 assists in the regular season.

My question is, which defenseman gets left exposed for the Kraken?

Good move by Lou. Isles free up $5.5mm and grab another 2nd rd pick. Panik will likely drop to the AHL and only hit us fir $245k while he's there. Presuming Eberle is either traded tomorrow or goes to Seattle, we'll have a lot more flexibility with 55 back in the LTIR. the next couple of weeks are going to be a wild ride

They’re protecting Pelech, Pulock and Mayfield. The whole planet knows this.

Gotta hope Lou has something in mind for the left side with Leddy gone. Between him and Toews, we’re weaker and lost our two best defensive puck movers. The one thing Leddy could do was skate the puck out of trouble and through the neutral zone. I get what Lou is doing and optimistic he fills the void. Just not sure how. Definitely gonna be a fun few weeks coming up. Hopefully anyway.

Was Nick Leddy needed when Snow traded for him seven years ago? Yes 100%. Is it a blow to the Isles defense? Maybe.

Personally I am glad LL trade him. It seemed to me that every time there was a big goal scored against the Isles he was on the ice. For an offensive defenseman he only had two of his seven seasons where his plus/ minus was on the even/ plus side. His offense too me did not out weigh his defense liability.

So while on the surface some maybe disappointed. I think this move will make the team stronger in the long run.

Suter would be a nice veteran presence on the back end.

I agree. Sorry to lose Leddy, but considering they were on the verge of losing him for nothing in the expansion draft, I have to give Lou credit.

Truth be told, I think Pelech, Pulock and Dobson are all very good puck moving dmen. Dobson was used to advance the puck on the pp through much of our playoff run. Pelech made a few highlight reel rushes during that stretch.
The Isles don't place as much emphesis on moving the puck up with the defense like they did during the Weigh & Cappy era.
It would certainly be nice to add a good skater on the blueline, but I don't think that's a major concern for Lou. So long as Dobson continues to mature in his decision making, that concern should fade

I agree keaner. This was a trade that had to be made and Pelech, Pulock, Dobson all can move the puck and Bolduc can be another puck mover when he is ready to join the team.

Greene gets exposed as they can now protect pulock pelech and Mayfield and Dobson is exempt. You need 1 d man exposed with at least 27 nhl games played. I think greene stays and now you need a 6th man, perhaps a f.a. like suter who wants a chance to win comes in and bolduc is your 7th man. Either way getting something for leddy is huge and it saves cap space, I think bellows and a 2nd go to Seattle in the expansion draft or Leo but Seattle has said 2 1st round picks to take a specific player

I thought Greene was a UFA? Rather he not be brought back. I'm not sure Bolduc should be sitting as the 7th instead of playing in Bridge if he is not ready.

All NHL teams MUST expose one defenseman who is under contract in 2021-22 and, additionally, played in at least 40 NHL games in 2020-21 or played in at least a combined 70 NHL games over the prior two seasons. That means Greene.

Yea that was my initial assumption so maybe we see him resigned today and Seattle wont take him is my guess. Suter on a short deal 1 or 2 years would be great as he was still playing 22 minutes a night

I’m ok with the trade under the circumstances - cap dump and a 2nd is nice. And frankly I’m not a huge Leddy fan. I thought he seemed like a dope at times offensively and was typical slow to make decisions. I’m sure Lou will fill that gap but we just lost our 2 and 3 LD’s the past two years and there isn’t much depth there currently. Hopefully someone like Suter can be brought in as others suggest.

I thank Leddy for his service. We became a much more credible franchise the day we acquired him and Boychuk. He played very well for this franchise and anytime he comes back to play or in retirement, every Isles fan should remember him fondly and give him his applause.

Saying that, definitely time for him to go. I assume we will expose Panik and we got a 2nd round pick too. All-in-all, tidy work by Lou. Thank you Nick Leddy.
