I still remember the Lindros fiasco….the Rangers were the lucky that deal didn’t go through.
The Flyer deal was an awful lot to give up as well. I remember when the Flyers drafted Forsberg and Bob Mackenzie said he thought he was more of a late first round-2nd round guy. He suggested that Marcus Naslund was the best Sweed. Just goes to show that sometimes reaches work. Central scouting had Forsberg similarly rated. One of the better Flyer drafts, although the ones Bill alluded to we’re pretty special as well. Wow. |

I enjoyed hearing Les Bowen cover the Flyers.
Met him once. Seemed like a soft-spoken kinda guy. Think he was flying out to cover an Eagles game. I was thinking, how does a nice quiet person end up covering a sport like football in a city like this?

The Sittler pick being a complete bust hurt the flyers pretty good. Then taking Bowen at 15 wasn’t much help.
To be fair there are a few guys drafted ahead of Sittler that I never heard of.
Woulda coulda shoulda.
I wonder what the flyers would have done if they had not gotten Limdros.
Lindros was a dominate player and awesome to watch. So was Forsberg.
At least we have Nopa to watch. |

Bill,
Regarding great draft classes- you have to include 1983, where with NO First Rd picks, they managed to draft Peter Zexel, Derrick Smith, Rick Tocchet, AND Pelle Eklund!
THAT was a haul. |

Happy father's day Bill and to all of us dads on here.
Congratulations to Les. I know him more for covering the Eagles but he seemed like a good guy.
Feels like the Philadelphia sports media is losing a lot of people. Be it retirement or going elsewhere. |

Those mid 90's teams with Lindros and Brind'Amour down the middle, big heavy scoring wingers in LeClair and Renberg as well as a good defensive core were fun to watch. Surprised they didn't win a Stanley Cup, just needed better goaltending |

Glad Ek mentioned the Pulock play last night flat out one of the best defensive plays I have ever seen. What a move by McDonagh to set up what would have been an amazing last second game tying goal, but Pulock took it away. Wow! |

As much as I was rooting for Tampa tonite the game I have to say that showed great awareness on Pulock’s part.
That kind of play can springboard a team to take a series.

I doubt the Flyers doing anything big until after the expansion draft. Read something on Dumba from Wild wanting to deal him before the draft. Doesn’t make best sense for Flyers. Than they have to lose Myers/Sand to the expansion draft. To me, I see the Flyers in a holding pattern until after the expansion draft. I think they will be very busy from then until the entry draft. I hope they have a lot of fires going on and kick a lot of tires. Not sure what will shake out but a D-pair for Provy is a must. |

Unless one of Myers or Sanheim is included in the deal for Dumba.

That makes no sense. Then the Wild lose Sanheim or Myers in the ED instead of Dumba. The Wild want forwards in the trade especially centers. |

I was only commenting on it from the Flyers side. |

Similar age as Couturier.
Similar cap hit Couturier may look for next summer.
Similar length Couturier may look for.
If Couturier has a good season, he is gonna want that money. UFA is his best chance at a major contract. Shows the challenge the Flyers find themselves in. Not just this summer, but next as well. |

Did you not mention that every team involved went on to win the Stanley Cup... except the Flyers. So I guess everyone won on that trade but us...?

I don’t think the Flyers should “rebuild”. I think it’s time for a new era. The Flyers were able to go from Richards to Giroux without a rebuild. |

not sure a "rebuild" with Giroux as the example is a good indicator of what we need to do lol. I like G but we havent won anything with him |

A team obviously can only have so many high cap hit players. The Flyers big need on defense is for a RH top pairing defenseman. I'll gladly pay that for Couturier.
