The last thing this team needs is another guy playing a passive brand of hockey, Rubstov can kick rocks. |

Happy birthday to Mr. Rinaldo. Love Sandy McCarthy.
Bill what is Rubtsov contract status after this upcoming season? Still RFA or UFA |

BIll, this is a question from the last blog.
What will the status of Foerster and Wisdom be for the upcoming season? Will they be forced to go back to Juniors?
Has there been any discussion of waiving the under 20 rules for CHL players who played last season in the AHL?
It seems to me that forcing them to return to juniors after showing they can succeed at the AHL level is unfair.
Do Foerster and Wisdom have any recourse such as signing with a team that is in a league that doesn't have the under 20 agreement with the AHL?

He'd be an RFA again after next season. Will still only be 23 years old and have four pro years, so he wouldn't qualify for Group 6 UFA status.

As of now, there doesn't seem to be a plan to alter the CHL/AHL age rules to allow for exceptions. So Foerster and Wisdom presently would either have to play in the NHL or go back to the Ontario League for next season.

Funny how people say Hextall was bad at drafting. He has had quite a few successful picks including:
Travis Konecny
Ivan Provorov
Morgan Frost
Joel Farabee
NAK
Travis Sanheim
Carter Hart
Oskar Lindblom
Not to mention a few names were are excited to see make the NHL
Wade Allison
Issac Ratcliffe
Felix Sandstrom
Noah Cates

He wasn't bad. I think many just think he was very good while overrating his picks. Still way to many question marks.
Is success becoming an NHL regular? Are there diff levels of success?

NAK lol, no. He’s had some good picks, specifically the sanheim and TK selections, for mid to late firsts those were great. The top 10 of Provys draft was can’t miss outside of Zacha and to some extent strome. Carter Hart too. Book still out on all those other guys, the NP one hurts, not all on him but geez , what a blunder. |

Considering the majority of picks never even play in the NHL, you would have to say yes.

I just read the scouting reports on German Rubtsov, says the kid had tremendous skill and his skating was above average but he was kind of a mystery. Unfortunate none of that's translated into the NHL or pro hockey in general. |

I agree. Then you drill it down. Like Patrick for example. Lets say he is nothing more than a 4th line player. He has an NHL career though as 2nd overall is it a failure?

Not necessarily, though, right? One may define success as more than just beating the average, which is what you used as the benchmark. |

Hexy kinda whiffed on the organizations first two picks in 2016, but he looks to have made up for it with the next four straight. |

I remember watching him in the Mem cup as a draft +2 I want to say, positionally sound but never stood out , pretty disappointing for a first rounder. |

Is picking him the failure, or, he himself the failure? |

Agree and the case is not closed yet in his picks. So if he had a grade I would say B-. I do think this coming season, how the youngens do will be the statement on Hexy picks. That is enough time to see them develop and be real contributors to a winning Team. |

I'm not giving him credit for Provorov falling to them at 7. My mom could have made that pick.
Overall he Hextall wasn't that bad at drafting. You can't hit on every first rounder picking in the middle. |

You should be able to get some mileage out of your late first round picks, I'd say both Rubtsov and Frost have been disappointing, but there's still some time. |

Well, in order to reach a consensus we must at some point settle on a criteria that is fair across all teams.
Of course some teams will be picking higher and higher picks have a better chance of playing.
So in order for it to be fair to all 31 GM's, actually playing in the NHL seems to be the fairest way to determine if you picked successfully. After all isn't that the whole point of making the picks? To get players who will play for your team?

At least Frost has shown flashes though, this past season really would have shown us a better picture but it is what it is. Hopefully he is ready to go next year. |
