Like I said he can only fix the future. And the players he brings in will have to be the one's to change the image. What he does know and the future will hopefully take care of past mistakes.

Wasn't Adams first attempt at fixing the future last offseason? How did that go?

I think the thing that Bugs me (see what I did there) about Eichels position here is that he’s trying to externalize this teams failure - it’s the franchises fault. There’s a fiber of truth in that of course, but let’s take a moment to call some bullpoop on Captain Passive Aggressive here.

Is there any player you can think of in the history of this franchise that’s had more agency and control over the state of their team? They have accommodated him constantly. Three recent examples:

Kruger - is the story we’re telling ourselves now that Eichel had no say in Kruger? In Housley before that? The blame here goes right to management then?

Skinner - are we believing that if Eichel wanted Skinner in his line he wouldn’t be there? The blame goes to Kruger (see above) or Botteril, or anyone other than Eichel.

ROR - are we forgetting the soft reason for that departure? The crown was fully, unquestionably handed to Jack as a result. He had no agency there?

Move him for what you can. He’ll succeed where he goes - he’s an extremely talented hockey player - but he’s also as responsible for this mess as anyone who does or has pulled on a game jersey here since he came in.

If only Arizona would be interested. Then he could play on the team that buys contracts to just reach the floor and play with ghosts.

Not good so far, but what he came into and had to do right of the bat, I am willing to see what happens next.

Your complaing he spent a FOURTH on a NHL player. Go check the odds on a fourth rounder ever playing as much as Frolik. It aint high.
- DirtyDan

When you are consistent poop sack team year after year, you should be holding on to and acquiring as many lottery tickets (draft picks) as humanly possible in hopes that you know what the (frank) you are doing during the draft so some of the picks made after round 1 actually turn out.

And who drafted those players, to blame 1 guy for the failure of multiple GM's is ridiculous.

Outside of the top 3-5 picks in the first round its entirely a crap shoot.

More draft picks, more chances at sussess.

See my post above as well for all teh players that were supposed to be great for Buffalo.

Again you completely missed the point.

Prospects, Sabres, Flames, Panthers, Leafs etc etc rarely live up to fan expectations.

I just ran through the Sabres list. You can do that for every team.

Sure, but the players that played the last 25 or so games looked decent, prospects recently drafted. There's a foundation to build of, with more coming through the pipeline that will hopefully work out. Drafting is always a crap shoot in the NHL, you hope you hit more than you miss, and it seems the last 3 or so years that we have hit on more.

It's a bit more complex, imo of course, then that. When we traded for Frolik, our PK was terrible, and we were still in the hunt (for the first time in seven? years). Adding Frolik was a calculated move to bolster that. Vesey was a 20/20 guy for the Rags for 2 years. They didn't pan out, and getting roster players for long shots isn't a bad idea, but with how the cupboards were, may not have been the right idea (obviously). Showing the fanbase/Eichel that there is/was growth happening while filling those cupboards with good picks was the plan, regardless of having 6 or 10 picks a year. The "suffering" portion was supposed to be over. It wasn't, isn't, and forever shan't be. Miserable we are doomed to be.
- SDSabre

Vesey never hit 20 goals or 20 assists during any season with the Rangers. He was a 30 point player on a team in the Rangers that had more talent. He joined a Sabres team with much less talent and produced accordingly.

The Sabres were actually 'in the hunt' weeks before the Frolik trade happened. Instead of making a trade when they really were in the hunt and needed the help, he waited and made the trade when it was too late. Ditto the Wayne Simmonds trade.

Botterill was entirely risk averse as a GM, in a multitude of ways.

He was a financial advisor who only believed in mutual funds and nothing else.

Was gonna say.

I have faith in the kid, but to reach an elite offensive level like that, I think we're gonna have to wait and see.

Plus, stylistically, I like Peterka way more than Marner.

Why excuse the utter and total failure that was last season as a result of the moves he made?

He had a very bad first season, and it does not bode well for this offseason.

The more I think about it the more Power makes sense. He seems like a “safe” pick. We are already going the risk route with all of these potential trades that could unfold over this summer.

Those last dozen Krueger games was without a doubt the lowest Sabres point of the last decade
