He never wanted to acquire talent, he wanted to draft it. He was here for what 2 years? Hard to do much in that short period of time with what had been done to our depth. We are still feeling the effect of the GM prior to Botts. - DirtyDan
3 years, 3 drafts, 6 picks per draft. He also had 6 picks coming up in what would have been his 4th draft |

He had no plan, he was treading water.
He neither tore it down or built it up.
He was the drought Bills. |

The Sabres really need to hit on Peterka and Quinn.
KA only made 5 draft choices last year after spending a pick to move up for Peterka |

So you complain Botts only made 6 picks avg per year but KA makes 5 and its alright?
Nobody expected or wanted Quinn except him.
JJ was a good pickup. To bad he shat the bed on the Quinn pick with Talent that was clearly better at that pick. |

No, that's why I'm saying they really need to hit on Peterka. A team as bad as the Sabres cannot be picking only 5 times.
They're in much better shape this year, thankfully |

All this proves is that upper management for the bills and sabres could not be any more different. same owners but the rest of the yahoo's running the sabres HAVE NOT A FREAKING CLUE WHAT THE F THEY ARE DOING. the sabres are the worst run professional sports team out there.(BARR none) Which is a damn shame because I used to love hockey. the fact that this management team can't or won't get on the same page as jack is only going to make matters worse going forward. this is multiple players now there there have been issues with....
They better figure this out in a big damn hurry, time to pull off the diapers and sit at the big boy table or get the hell out, cause I'm about to strap the ACME bomb to anything sabres related. to say this has been a complete poop show would be a COMPLETE UNDERSTATEMENT. the owners should be embarrassed at how far this organization has sunk. - gordong
Lions say hold my beer. Their franchise players just straight up retire and the org goes after them for their signing bonuses. We ain't there yet chief. |

He was in a bad spot when he got here no doubt.
He just could never acquire any talent that meaningfully moved the needle. He was a nickel and dimer and he spent a good deal of nickels - Hank Balling
Just like the guy before him, that handed him those keys to the Pinto. |

All he did was nickel and dime. Never drafted anyone of importance.

I wonder what the Krakken would give for an Eichel or if there is any interest at all...
An all draft pick trade for Eichel. Including #2 this year.

It's OK. Most places have them middle of the pack or slightly below that. It should be a lot better considering how bad we've been |

You're right, they have him for 5 years if they want to tell him to kick rocks.
Is that really healthy for anyone involved though? - Hank Balling
Eichel s a professional who will play his best no matter where he is.

Trading 3-4 rd picks for old players who others teams were healthy scratching and hoping to dump to play in your top 6 is the way to go correct? - ImThatGuy
It's a bit more complex, imo of course, then that. When we traded for Frolik, our PK was terrible, and we were still in the hunt (for the first time in seven? years). Adding Frolik was a calculated move to bolster that. Vesey was a 20/20 guy for the Rags for 2 years. They didn't pan out, and getting roster players for long shots isn't a bad idea, but with how the cupboards were, may not have been the right idea (obviously). Showing the fanbase/Eichel that there is/was growth happening while filling those cupboards with good picks was the plan, regardless of having 6 or 10 picks a year. The "suffering" portion was supposed to be over. It wasn't, isn't, and forever shan't be. Miserable we are doomed to be. |

I think the thing that Bugs me (see what I did there) about Eichels position here is that he’s trying to externalize this teams failure - it’s the franchises fault. There’s a fiber of truth in that of course, but let’s take a moment to call some bullpoop on Captain Passive Aggressive here.
Is there any player you can think of in the history of this franchise that’s had more agency and control over the state of their team? They have accommodated him constantly. Three recent examples:
Kruger - is the story we’re telling ourselves now that Eichel had no say in Kruger? In Housley before that? The blame here goes right to management then?
Skinner - are we believing that if Eichel wanted Skinner in his line he wouldn’t be there? The blame goes to Kruger (see above) or Botteril, or anyone other than Eichel.
ROR - are we forgetting the soft reason for that departure? The crown was fully, unquestionably handed to Jack as a result. He had no agency there?
Move him for what you can. He’ll succeed where he goes - he’s an extremely talented hockey player - but he’s also as responsible for this mess as anyone who does or has pulled on a game jersey here since he came in. |

fiala/greenway+dumba represented some $8-9m for the wild last year and fiala's an arb eligible rfa who will probably get a nice bump...
jack's at $10m so they balance that out giving minnesota a lot of cap-space (some $17m) to play with this off season - Michael Pachla
Fiala is predicted to get $6M per for 5 years on his next deal. |
