Ask Russo: Wildâs eternal search for a star center...and more
https://theathletic.com/2...lvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
Of note from this piece, former Amerks GM Randy Sexton is with Minnesota as senior advisor to the GM.
As they look for a No. 1 center a choice of Barkov or Jack was proposed and Russo went Barkov, but qualified it by saying he thinks the Cats are gonna try hard to get a contract extension done and also mentioned the risk of trading for a player with one year left on his contract. As to Jack, "if youâre going to give up the massive assets needed to get him, you better make damn sure you do your due diligence on this injury."
Russo also points out that the Wild will need shed money out to counter Jack's incoming $10M mentioning Dumba ($6M) and Fiala (who he thinks 5yr/$27.5M extension is low). Dumba, Rossi and two firsts "would get Buffalo's attention" but the money wouldn't work.
He also called Jack, "the captain of a perennial loser," although it's a chicken/egg thing as to who's at fault. âThere have been questions about his character since he was 16, and he hasnât done anything to change that perception,â Russo wrote in a previous piece. "Perception is reality sometimes, and like it or not, that perception is out there. But... At some point, youâve got to swing for the fences because youâre not a serious contender when youâre trotting out Victor Rask to center Kaprizov or Fiala." - Michael Pachla
rumor of the wild offering Kirill Kaprizov 8 mil a year, IMO does not make the wild a viable trade partner
too much crap cap

Oh my.
Having Sexton there might help facilitate a deal. |

And it wouldn't move the needle for Adams. Let someone else trade for Ek or Greenway, then. |

Common denominator of years past with three GMs and I think four coaches? The âyoung coreâ. They gave the keys to a young kid that was ill prepared to take them. A prima donna whiner, prone to injuries and not a leader.
Eichel, Reinhart, Ristolainen. Cause of the poor performances, or just riders on a mismanaged train? I would argue the former. Many legitimate NHL players have cycled through the door in this period of time, and they appear as if they forgot how to play hockey.
More than any other sport, locker room culture is a defining factor of a team. Patrice Bergeron and others instill and drive winning cultures. Jack Eichel drives a me-first losing culture, as do Reinhart and Ristolainen. If you donât think part of RORâs reason for losing passion wasnât related to his inability to counter the âyoung coreâ and drag them and the rest of the teamâs compete level along with him, you are sorely misreading the situation. There may mot be personal hostility between them, but ROR saw the light and wanted out.
Excise the cancer and move forward. Get rid of all three, strike the best deal you can and get the right guys in the room to create a winning culture. Look at a kid like Brady Tkachuk and how Ottawa played this year. Right to the end they battled, and if they had consistent goaltending all year may have knocked Montreal out of fourth. Iâll take their future over currently constructed Sabres all day long.
You may not âwinâ every trade in terms of the measurables, but if you get three guys with talent and the intangibles. You will be light years ahead of where the three of those guys will take you. Do it and build with the pieces you get in return, but must be very wise and diligent.
Donât know if they have right front office personnel to do it, but only shot they have to turn things around. |

Lol, that Barkov is always mentioned as someone with a year left on his deal who âthey might can get from Floriduh.â Barkov is happy here, and the Captain is ready to lead his team to more success. The Panthers organization loves everything about Barkov. Zito will re-sign Barkov, thereâs no way they would let him go. They will get an extension done for Barkov this offseason.

I would take Greenway if the Wild can't protect him, he would bring some much needed snarl to this team. |

Itâs what Iâve been saying. Move these guys for a boatload of picks prospects. You might not win each individual trade in a vacuum but you end up ahead in the end. |

Dumba would be a Cap dump though right? 2 years isn't horrible. He could be used as a trade chip at the '22-23 TDL by holding some Cap.
Same with Rask as a Cap dump...but for 1 year.
Those two clear the $10m cap hit for Jack
Now what's the return for Jack and for taking on 2 cap dumps?
*Jack's value = 3 premium pieces?
-Rossi
-Boldy
-Fiala
*What's the value for taking 2 Cap dumps? 2 pieces, 1 better piece?
-Lindberg (G), 2021-2nd?
-?

Well doesn't a player have to be with a team for a year to sign a max deal |
