I listened to the “31 thoughts” podcast. Elliotte’s first two points:
1) a big blue line
2) coaching
a) knowing what talent you have and managing that talent.
b) some arrogance, experience and will.
Uh oh!

No, maybe, unfortunately and yes.

Trade down. Draft anyone else first, then draft Raty. |

In the summer of 2022, who should be the #1 UFA target for Stan (assuming he hasn’t been fired)?
A) Nick Leddy
B) Aleksander Barkov
C) Johnny Gaudreau
D) Filip Forsberg
E) Darnell Nurse
F) Max Domi
I think we can all agree on the right answer. |

Honestly, I'd be ok with any of the middle 4. I think it may be 1 year early, though. Who are the top targets in 23? |

Anyone see the game today? Goalie win, or just tight. 2-1 Isles! |

Interesting question. What is a #1D. In the NHL? In the Conference? The division or the team?
An earlier post made reference to Detroit winning with a good goaltended in Osgood but if I remember correctly those teams also had #5 on several of those teams.
We have been very lucky as Hawks fans in 2010, 2013 & 2015. If Leddy had not screened his own goalie I believe we would have added another Cup.
IMO it doesn't matter so much if a team has a "top" D. No question you have to have quality depth. When players like Handzus, Madden, Versteeg, Vermette, etc can come in and contribute to your 3rd or 4th lines. That's quality depth. Certainly didn't hurt to have the likes of Keith, Seabrook, Toews, Kane, Hossa, Buff, Ladd, etc. Still comes back to having several players that can contribute and cause match up challenges to the other team. Then while most of us enjoyed Savard as a player and some as a coach, the winning really didn't happen until Q arrived. With the exception of maybe the Penguins a few years ago who went on that run to the Cup, most of the teams that get there have a quality coach. Although the talent on that Pens team certainly didn't hurt. Bottom line, it takes much more than one or two stars. Just ask the Oilers. |

How do you know? Is that what makes you a tough guy? Childish - LFS
Relax obviously the point I am attempting to make is Boqvist is susceptible to concussions .The play I am referring to looked very innocent and the puck seemed to make limited contact to his chin ,could be wrong he was out a week .I put a lot of the blame on the organization for the rush to get Boqvist into the league far to soon. I don't believe he was physically ready . We will see he has shown flash of good hockey hopefully he can still put it all together and remain healthy |
