I guess #IsItOctoberYet will have a new meaning this year...

He only said big announcement, he didn't say an announcement about the Blackhawks. At least it wasn't made up like a JJ upcoming announcement.

Isles will never give up Wally for the dead weight of Strome.

Trotz would blow a gasket over a guy that can't skate worth a crap, can't win board battles and is a step or three behind the play. Yeah, Barry COULD probably hide him by making sure he's got 4 other strong skaters but if you watch those guys at all, they are expected to compete hard for 200'.

I'd guess Strome wouldn't last too long under that environment.
If he didn't like JC scratching him from the lineup on occasion to "get more" out of him, he'd be sitting a long time for Barry. My guess is he'd seldom see the ice.

It's luxury to have a # 1 defensemen, but you can live without it if you have good solid players all around. The Hawks barely survived the Ducks in the playoffs in 2015. If you recall, they basically played with four defensemen. Just show you how good those four guys were. Probably better off with three solid pairs of D, and competent replacement or two in case of injury. The Islanders have not had a number one defensemen, although seems as if Adam Pelleck is growing into that role. If you have good players throughout your roster, you don't have to "hide" anyone. Just roll them out there and they can play against any line if needed.

Pelleck ahead of R Pulok? Last game Pulock over 23 TOI & Pellech over 22 TOI. Mayfield about same TOI, Greene and Leddy next with Dobson only 11 TOI.

I do not doubt Pellech is developing nicely. But I checked the TOI because I know Mayfield has come a long ways, and Pulock has some value too. In fact, his great shot vs us resulted in a hat trick a couple or so years ago. But he hasn't pumped in lot of goals this season.

the 3 heaviest teams in the NHL are all in the finals. MTL is the 7th. guess who was last and we all want to trade ZAD. I know everybody talks about size not being important but clearly in playoff hockey it is.

So is being able to play well which he doesn't really which is why I believe most of us want to trade him.

I didn't see a lot of him prior to his stint with the Hawks and was hoping he'd work out here. Idk, but I just don't see it.

If he was statistically the best 5 x 5 defenseman the Hawks had, then maybe Stan should trade/release all of them and start over? Would you rather have the smallish Sam Girard back there against Vegas? Do you want Girard's contract at $5 mil. for the next 6 seasons?

Why does it have to be either, or? I don’t want Zadorov or Girard.

Were the Hawks anywhere near the heaviest team in the league in 2010, 2013, or 2015? Seriously, I have no idea, but I doubt it. If I had to guess the 2010 team was the Heaviest on average with guys like Byfuglien, Ladd, Brouwer, Eager, etc.

My point is the "He was not very good". Granted he was not very good, but the other Hawk defenseman were worse. I get that most everyone thinks Saad should of brought back 5 potential Norris Trophy candidates, but my guess is that after shopping him the trade deadline before and the off-season, along with his $6 mil. cap hit, Zadorov was probably the best Stan could get. Saad wouldn't of made the Hawks better this year, he didn't make Colorado any better either.

Good reference by year. Looks like the Hawks are consistently in the bottom half.

With three #1 quality defensemen. Which means they are not a good example of a team who won without a #1 defenseman.

Outside of 2010, the Hawks have been bottom third of the league (if not bottom 5) in terms of average weight. Pens, Panthers, Oilers, Preds and Bruins were all bottom half of the league in weight this year.

Is it nice to have bigger players? Sure, as long as they are good at hockey. Not to mention that the Hawks were the third youngest team in the league this year (behind the NJD, and NYR). Younger players tend to be a bit lighter (especially as 19-21 yr olds).

Let them keep building up the number of good young players in their system and in a few years they may be able to compete for a cup. Just be prepared that all of your old faves likely will not be part of it (maybe Kane, but we'll see how he holds up).
