Taylor Hall on his next contract: "I'm not looking to absolutely maximize value."
He noted that he's made some good money in the league already, and that a "good fit" might be the priority on his new deal.
"You want to find a home for the next few years."

I am absolutely not going to say we do it...but Hall does have a lot of ties in Ontario. His GF lives here.
But if he takes a pay cut do we consider it? |

Leafs Nation has a very odd habit of worshiping guys with limited talent, because they "work harder than anyone."
Hyman is a nice player.
I wouldn't give him a penny over $3.5M. Hell, even that is crazy.
And he turned 29 on Wednesday. WTF is this talk of a six year contract?
Are you franking kidding me? - Atomic Wedgie
I think it's pretty much a given that his numbers are inflated playing on a line with AM34 and Mitch.
He's one of the only guys on the team that has any so-called truculence so I think his value is highly inflated as a result.
I can't imagine wanting to bring him back for anything above 4M and with that kind of term. |

I keep hearing this "if" thrown around each year about the Core 4. Would be fun not to have to speculate on how this team would do if the Core 4 would actually (frank)ing produce.
But sure, let's just throw more resources into the top 6 to see if that will get those snakebitten 4 all going at the same time.
And for the record, I'm not sure if "fantastic" is the word I would use to describe those outside of Kerfoot and Spezza. But, okay... - mjones242
They produced more than Depth normally produces in the playoffs. How else did they get to game 7 without their top players doing anything? |

Stone is many things.
Fantastic hockey player.
Great leader.
Worth every dollar of that contract.
But he's NOT a beauty.
- Scabeh
I remember a few years ago before he was traded to Vegas, I suggested a Nylander for Stone trade.
the Nylander fanboys thought that was crazy, and Stone supposedly was a very limited player.
Matthews and Marner could have used a Stone on their line

Outside the core 4?
Rielly, Brodie, Campbell, Muzzin, Spezza Kerfoot, Galchenyuk, Bogosian All did very well in their roles. |

Tbh I have no idea what his value is.
Depends on the market more than his talent as his season brings his value down.
But if he thinks the Leafs are a good fit for him as a player and a person I just wonder how much less he is willing to take.
He probably gets 6x7M on the open market.
Would he take 7x6m? Or less? I think I'd really have to entertain that. |

Sounds like a lot but all those smaller contracts will add up as well. Lots of RFA and UFAs to take care of. |

I've done the math for adding a 6-7 m player
They can do it without having to trade the core 4 |

Maybe ya.
Move him out for a replacement for Morgan.
Trade morgan for cap space and picks. |

But your math included moving out Morgan.
Losing a top 4 D for another 6+ million forward, doesnt make sense.
Also the leafs have about 13m in available cap space.
So its not really feasible unless you move out a core piece.
Or else they'll have no depth at all. |

Moving out Rielly and signing/trading for a 3.5-4M defender.
Replacing Rielly excluding the PP for cheap isnt that difficult. |

Baby wrister from top of circle can’t go in during a game 7, talk about deflating.
Game 5 he was also shaky.
Price let in zero softies.
I’d run with him but I think we need another goalie also. Bad groin or whatever it is and a little bit fragile mentally. - Garnie
Game 7 wrister was bad.
Game 5 he was shaky - but then locked it down and gave them a chance to come back.
1.6 million VS 10 million in goal. Campbell made the goaltending performances waaaay closer than they should have been.

So we move out 5m (morgan). take in 7m for hall and 3.5- 4m about 11m total. leaving 7m to fill out the rest of the roster...including a goalie. |

there's really not.
Svechnikov, Nedeljkovic, Bean, Hamilton. Figure 21 million between them.
2.5 for McGinn. Foegele signs for similar or is traded.
Hakanpaa signs for $1 million or less.
then you just find a cheap vet to platoon with Nedeljkovic in free agency.
Martinook, Paquette, McCormick and Shore walk. One of Skjei or Gardiner goes in the expansion draft.
Or Gardiner goes LTIR or retires because his back is completely (frank)ed and he can't skate anymore.
