The PP didn’t have a shot from the point when it led the league this year - Canada Cup
At the beginning of the year Then all the opposing teams figured it out, and didnt cover Marner/Reilly for shots, and boom, it turned to poop.

This is not the same narrative. They were good in the regular season, and ok in the playoffs, but you cant tell me you think that the Leafs dcore matches up well with the other contenders...its just not true. - Archaic
It is true.
TB and VGK are freaks of nature. MTL and the Isles? 100%. The Leafs d core outperformed the Habs all series.
Blaming the D core here is just false. |

Exactly.
So switch up the powerplay. Take Mitch off if he isn't working. Move Nylander to PP1.
The powerplay worked amazing for a month (maybe a few weeks). I think it lulled the leafs coaches into a sense that it would return to that level if they just stuck with it.
That's the only explanation I can come up with for why no significant changes were made in roughly three months of failure. - Leafs43
I agree, removing Marner off the PP1 would help if they replaced him with Nylander. They will never do it though.

Holl has been great at 2M in the top 4. I've been saying it the past two years and losing in the 1st round doesn't change my opinion on it.
The D was a non issue. It is a false narrative being held onto by some from past teams. - Santo_44
Holl has not been great. Holy poop. Watch a freaking game. He gets worse as the season goes on, and he’s outright horrible when Muzzin is hurt. He’s a 3rd pairing D prompted up by a good player. |

Totally, what other contender wouldnt have him in the top 4. - Archaic
TB won with Bogosian in the top 4 last year and are playing Jan Rutta right now.
Vegas has Brayden Mcnabb.
I don't know what you expect of your teams 4th D. He produces more than fine results in his role. At a good cap hit too. |

The Habs suck, and while the Leafs choked to them, they should not be used as a measuring stick. The goal isnt to get past the first round, its to win a cup. Theyll have to play better teams then the Habs to win a cup, and the Leafs dcore wont outperform those teams D.
You upgrade where you can, the Leafs dcore is not contender worth yet IMO. They need a top end dman.

I completely disagree.
The stats are on my side as well.
So I just don't agree with your eye test and you have to live with that |

I like the Leafs D core and I do think they can win with it. |

And his defensive ability is questionable.
I'd take him on my team, especially if Dougie goes elsewhere, but only because we already have Slavin and Pesce that can cover for him. - BINGO!
at 5 mil you can ignore the short commings, but with a nice raise.

Last I checked they also had Hedman, Sergachev, and McDonagh as well....comparing the Leafs d to Tampas is laughable

Another playoffs where this guy takes himself out of the playoffs, hurting his team's depth.
Will he ever learn?

1st game: 2 goals against.
2nd game: 1 goal against
3rd game: 1 goal against
4th game: shutout
5th game: 4 goals against (in OT)
6th game: 3 goals against (in OT)
7th game: 3 goals against (1 was EN)
I'm still puzzled by the narrative that our defence and goalie should have been better. |

There are only a select few on here that like to harp on Holl.
Funny enough when things don't go well those guys come out and harp on him.
It is hard to argue against him not being effective in his role.
