What do you expect the players to say? I am not going to speak negatively about my boss, in fact I might even embellish my boss’s ability to be looked upon much more favourably.

Can’t help but find it ridiculous and funny that teams that continue to make the postseason and win rounds want to blow everything up and fire the coach. What you’re doing is working. 75% of teams wish they had your success. Knee jerk Reactions amusing.

Unfortunately Maurice won't be going anywhere. If the Jets get off to a horrible start to the season he may be replace by Xmas and most likely Huddy or another assistant will be promoted to head coach. It will be another wasted season for the players and their fans but a great one for the reporters who love Maurice's quips.

This, changing the coach isn't likely to make the team better. Can it? Sure, can it make it worse? Just as likely. While the Jet's are a great team that should have beaten the habs on paper, are they an equal to Vegas or Colorado on paper? Don't think so yet. There should be other factors to look into other than just firing the coach in hopes some new one, that right now nobody even knows who that would be, is going to be the magic fix.

Understand what you're saying. There's a certain fanbase that have wanted Maurice gone forever ago, it wouldnt matter if he took them to game 7 of the SCF. What I will add, though, is that it's not the fact they lost as it is so much how badly they looked in doing so. I have been resistant to agreeing with others (on here) about the demand for coaching change, cuz I like Maurice, and he's done well with this team more than not. But sometimes a change is needed to take another step forward, and that time may be now. I'd sure like a coach who'd keep the Jets from being atop the league in high danger scoring chances against, for starters!

Things to be expected:
- Top players saying they love Maurice because he means big minutes, few responsibilities, and zero repercussions.
- Fringe players and youngins saying they love Maurice to not have their careers sewered.
- Goalies to have no idea what’s going on because they’re all crazy.

I know I don’t want Maurice and co. back, and if you’ve been on Instagram today, I don’t think Ville Heinola does either lol

They have won 3 rounds in 8 years of coaching. 2 off which came during one playoff run. Does this team make the playoffs if they are in the Central is the main question you should be asking yourself.

Many teams have fired coaches after making the playoffs for consecutive years. Pittsburgh fired Micheal Therien after they went to cup final, only to win it a year later with Dan Bylsma at the helm.

If 4 of our Dmen are Morrissey, Pionk, Heinola and DeMelo we will get squashed in the playoffs again.

Change the coach sure, stay small’ish on D and take your loss in the playoffs.

MTL, NYI, LV, TB are close to a 6’3” average this is a trend Chevy can see

I wish Maurice would play the youth more, however doing that generally means little playoff success and veterans frustrated at losing opportunities to win the cup.

The coach also is responsible for playing players who are ready, I have to assume he recognizes some, who I want to see play, are not. Placing rookies in positions to fail and consequently the team to fail have to be considered. He would have the inside track on this. I was a fan of Petan however he never worked out in Toronto either and was once referred by Babcock as one third of their worst line.

The perception that Maurice is tied to Wheeler and Schiefele is a concern to me, but I recall Demers, Keenan and others tying their loyalties to specific players on their teams.

Line combination talk does not interest me as any outsider comments are just that and commenters are not privileged to all the information from the inside. I trust coaches on this.

Maurice strikes me as a coach that many players would prefer to have.

I do wish the Jets had a defensive system that works. It has been a while.

Finally, I think Maurice has had a decent opportunity here and a change should be considered knowing however that the same problems will arise with the next coach. Rinse, cycle, repeat.

Maurice has 2 years left at $3 million per and True North doesn’t have a habit of paying people not to work.

My guess is he has a 20 game window next year

I remember in 2009 when Denis Savard was fired by the Blackhawks and Patrick Kane was in tears to the media about the loss of his coach. They hired Quenneville and a year later had the Stanley Cup.

It's always a plus to have a coach you respect and enjoy. I love Maurice's quick barbs, but he keeps on trying to do the same thing over and over again while the results fail to change. It's time for a new coach and I think the Jets have the man for the job with Pascal Vincent. Let Maurice do what he's good at and replace Kevin Sawyer on the TSN Broadcast team.

Maurice actually has 1 year left with True North having an additional option year on the contract. They would lose 3 million. They can make that back with a deeper run in the playoffs.

The New York Post states the Rangers have an interest in Maurice. If they hire him, then the Jets don't need to pay out the remainder of the contract.

No I don't think he should keep his job beyond this season. He is a great guy, and provides some hilarious soundbites, but he has lost the ability to recognize individual players performances. Ill say it again, Stanley is the 3rd best D on this squad, yet if Beaulieu was healthy, we wouldn't have seen him in a jets uniform. He failed to give Heinola a fair chance to make a difference, and pretty well crippled Niku's confidence when giving him 11 minutes a night with terrible pairings. Wheeler is no longer effective playing north of 18 minutes a night, but could probably still be a beast if moved down the lineup. And why was PLD even in the linup, let alone top 6? He was easily the Jets worst forward all playoffs (including Thompson/Lewis), meanwhile Ducharme healthy scrathed Tatar when he felt the effort wasn't there. I saw two coaches that series. One adapted and knew who was firing on all cylinders, and the other coach threw in the exact same lineup despite continually getting outshot 2:1. Sorry PoMo, but I would vote you out.

Rangers are 100% in on Toccet, assuming he doesn't join Seattle. Then there is still Gallant in the mix as well.

Keep Maurice (yeah, you all knew I would say that).
He did make it to the final 8 !

If Chevy would stop signing the vets, Maurice would have no choice but to play the youngsters.

Maybe if #55 had made a better decision (and it should NOT have been 4 games), the Jets might still be playing and Maurice would look a little better.

I could live with replacing Huddy.

It's coaching man... Chevy isn't the problem. Chevy was the one pushing to see more Heinola, and PoMo didn't want him interfering. PoMo is the one not playing Harkins/Stanley/Appleton where they should be while Wheels is gassed every shift. Some Vets are great. I'd love to see Stastny back, and if they Jets get a sniff at inking cheap one years on Spezza/Perry, sign em up! Lewis/Thompson/Beaulieu/Forbort can all walk free and easy. Perrault too if he wants more than 1.5M AAV

There’s a few factors to consider here:
- The NHL defenceman is the only position in contact sports to actually be trending DOWN in average height and weight.
- The best defenceman we ever had when it came to forcing players away from the front of the net was Toby Enstrom.
- The best pure shutdown pairing in the NHL today features the >200lbs Brodin and the 5’9” Spurgeon.
- The 3 defencemen who actually deserve Norris consideration this year (Hedman had an off year) are 5’11” Makar, 5’11” Fox, and 6’ McAvoy.
- Additionally, Nils Hoglander was one of the best “power” forwards in the NHL, routinely using his lower center of gravity and positioning to outmuscle the big boys. Size is nice, but it can also mean Jack sh*t

Don’t disagree defensemen don’t have to be monsters

The trend with winning teams is big D men those are facts also.

Take Makar and Girard, 2 stud Dmen, and almost all the other D in the final 4 will be 6’2”+ with many 6’4” or taller

Of course you can have one or two, if you have 4 you’ll get crushed over a playoff series

All but two of the players you mention are out of the playoffs, one may be out tonight and the one who remains 'had an off year'.

defense size sorted by team and playoff TOI
Vegas : 6'2", 6'3", 6'1", 6'2", 6'6" & 6'4"
Tampa: 6'6", 6'1", 6'3", 6'3", 6'3" & 6'2"
New York: 6'2", 6'0", 6'3", 6'5", 5'11" & 6'4"
Montreal: 6'4", 6'3", 6'3", 6'4", 6'2" & 6'3"
Colorado: 6'1", 5'11", 5'10", 6'5", 6'3" & 6'2"

Toby didn't force anyone away from the front of the net, he depended on finesse and quickness to take away their opportunities. His best move to force them away was his "Hey Buff..."

Bergevin was right that one kind of player gets you to the playoffs and another kind gets you through them. The effectiveness of players does not extrapolate cleanly between those seasons.

Edit:
Jets: 6'0", 6'0", 6'4", 6'1", 6'2" & 6'7". Heinola listed at 6'1"

Yikes.

Here's Bruins D for most of the playoffs...
6'0", 5'9", 6'1", 6'5", 5'11", 6'1"

And Carlo (6'5" guy) only played 3 games 2nd round.

Well, hockey is a team sport after all.
Erik Karlsson is the best defenceman anyone under 30 has likely ever seen, and yet he doesn’t have that respect because his team was ass and his foot committed die.

Hedman and Hamilton are realistically the only big boys in the elite tier of NHL defencemen. Everyone else is either 6’ or less, or under 200lbs. Speed and skill is the name of the game.
Aside from Hedman, all of the best guys on those listed teams are known for their offensive abilities first and foremost. Not their size, physicality, or defensive play. Theodore, Pulock, Fox, Petry, Makar. All offensive punch.

Also, your Toby point is the same as mine. Taking away opportunities = keeping people away from the net.

Never seen anybody dispute actual heights of players and the teams that are successful with bigger D (St Louis championship D were a big group as well)

Big D wins apparently they even win over stats lol
