Theo Fox: Booster Shots A look at Lukas Reichel's ELC signing and how next season's rookie hopefuls could shape the Blackhawks roster.

Plus, a look at the IceHogs re-signing of another budding forward in Chris Wilkie.

I am hoping the Hawks expose deHaan, Zadorov, and Strome in the expansion draft and protect Stillman, Borgstrum and Gaudette. I feel Gaudette could be the most pleasant surprise this coming season.

I like Reichel a lot. But make him earn a spot in training camp. Starting at the Rock is not a slight. Let him get some experience in the Hawks (Colliton’s) schemes at the Rock Maybe some PK and PP experience too

Are you serious? Anyone that rates inclusion of scoring an empty netter on a highlight video ... that's a serious statement

That's the route I'd go too. After trading for and signing both Stillman and Borgstrom, I see them being protected. You can only lose one and I don't view losing either Z or Strome as a big loss.

It'd be better to get something for them in trade but either way. I feel Gaudette could be a pretty good player for us too. It sounds like the issues he was dealing with health wise weren't pleasant and with that behind him I'd like to see him back in Chicago next season.

Another well-written and thought provoking blog Theo. Thanks.

My take on what you stated is that the Hawks have options.

Stan has done a pretty good job of trying to mitigate the unknowns (Toews, expansion draft) and seems to have gotten, a sufficient amount of players that may or may not work out. It's up to the players to show they can play big boy hockey.

I'm sure he's not done adding and subtracting so it should be an interesting summer.

Also, congrats to the Islanders for knocking out the Bruins. It was nice to see and hear the old Nassau Coliseum rocking.

The Isle will have there/they're/their hands full with Tampa though. The Bolts are definitely on a mission to repeat.

I’m more interested in going over and checking out JJ’s thoughts about Lukas being a pure product of the Blowman Hype Machine, a Eurosmurf who can’t play big boy hockey and other such tropes before his first AHL/NHL shift.

On second thought that probably sums it up.

Do you think Shanahan is remorseful at all about selecting Dubas over Lamarello as Toronto GM? Toronto was trending in the right direction when Lou was running the show, and look what he has done with the Isle's.

That is a pretty strong rebuke. I did not guarantee his success. I did not even give him a roster spot on the Hawks. I said maybe he should start at the Rock. I just said I like him a lot.

I have seen a ton of video, some games and read a lot of reports from Hawk related and non-Hawk related sources. Collectively based on that I like him a lot. Sheesh.

Yep. Lou hired Barry Trotz. Lou and Barry are good at what they do.

Indeed.
Couple of comments here.
Palmieri and Zajac are playing some "big boy" hockey for sure. Isles have 4 lines not only capable of scoring but also very capable of a heavy forecheck, pinning their opponent in their own zone and also very capable of playing 200' hockey.

With Anders Lee going out with the knee injury, that was a really smart move on Lou's part. Palmieri in particular reminds me of the toughness and skill Ladd brought during the initial Cup run for the Hawks. Able to play the heavy game but enough speed to keep up, enough skill to compete and the toughness in the corners, at the boards and in front of the net.

Watching the Isles take down the Bruins should have clearly demonstrated just how far the Hawks are from competing again. Isles got VG goaltending, solid d play and their forward lines all committed to playing 200' game which is what Barry requires from his guys.

Would love to see the Isles take down the Bolts but that is going to be an uphill battle. However, if they are capable of playing like they did last night, it will be a great series to watch.

That is almost exactly what he wrote in his last email to me. But he was still blaming McD for the hype machine; there must be limited Wifi at the Dead Lift Gym.

It was not meant as a rebuke. I asked how you watch the games, so I can watch other Euro prospects in the future. Sheesh.

Not only Lamarello but Hunter too. Dubas’ plan was to revive the Oilers one way firebrand hockey which is great in the regular season, not so much in the playoffs. Dubas had better rethink his strategy or he’s gonna be the next GM HockeyBuzz Blackhawk posters will be clamouring for.

That’s certainly your prerogative but it should also be a private matter between Nylander and yourself.

I am certain the Blackhawks wanted him here to learn.

Also to see how a skilled young player who has a knack for reading the action, getting in behind the net, winning pucks and quickly transporting and outlying to teammates for scoring chances.
This smaller sized kid is not gonna kill penalties - he didn't do it on his national World team, his World Junior U-20, so I am gonna not add that to kid's versatility.
I also think the idea is to gauge if playing with NHL veterans of skill at high pace are something he jumps on the ice and thrives from, or
if the he gets lost and com pettily out of his depth and needs the season a minor pro season lest him experience.

I am just saying, the Hawks SAW something and went off the board. He was difficult let player fro me to see much, so I wasn't on board to the high level the Baslckhawks were.

After the prospectss before him went off the board, the Blackhawks went quickness hands skill hockey IQ, and foot speed.

They know more than us, but as I say to everyone, you don't see the NHL pedigree (unless it is a generational top selected prospect) consistently until all the parts are in place.

I am not sure they are with him, but that is alright, but we in a rush to qualify for the playoff or build a chance to be there with some regularity?

As underwhelming as Strome has been, I highly doubt Nylander amounts anything better.

imo opinion and most likely seeing that jake debrusk is going to be moved what would a hockey trade look like that benefits the hawks and boston. Case is another player from boston mentioned by exlund. If the hawks be willing to take john moore's contract in the deal. Hawks need a power forward and yes this debrusk was not very good but i would inquire at least.
