Calgary looking to reshapes their team. Kubalik and a 2nd for Hannifin?

Then replace Kubalik with NYR's Buchnevich. Send them Strome ((maybe uniting him with his brother will have positive effect), Zadorov for the toughness they desire, and another piece maybe Beaudin.

rather cyhtil hanafin is overrated imo

Don't spend assets to get Hanifin. He's just an average #3-4 defenseman.

...so you think Hanifin at a little less than $5 million for a couple more years is worth a second AND Kubalik?

Especially a guy who has scored 30 goals in a season. Its other teamism that goes on. Any player on another team is automatically better than anyone who plays for the Hawks.

If Toews is finished you need Kane more than ever. And they played without Toews last year, not like they are going into a new year not knowing what it is like with him gone. They probably will have their own high draft picks next couple of years. And Kane would need to be willing to move also.
- LAHawk

If Toews is gone what good is having Kane? they're not going anywhere. get picks for him, he would go to buffalo. if not then he's just dead weight on a young team which is at least 3-4 years away from seriously being able to compete for a cup. As far as drafting, their biggest need is forwards not defensemen. Go Hawks.

Not if they continue to trade anyone who actually produces at the NHL level.

Re coaches (from Ek FWIW):

Time to catch up on the latest...

NY Rangers

The feeling had been Messier and I do believe Mess will take on some kind of a coaching role next season...Possibly as the head coach, but also possibly as an assistant...The Rangers are definitely interested in Gerard Gallant, and may interview Tocchet...Tortorella is also in the mix, but I feel not as strongly on Gallant or Messier...A new name has also emerged...If the Penguins lose this series there is a belief that Sullivan could become available....pretty shocking given that many have stated he was a potential Adams winner this season...The results are not there though...If the Penguins get eliminated in the first round this year that would be the third time in three years they don't see the second round....

Buffalo Sabres...

The Sabres like Tocchet and Torts, but Sullivan would jump to the top of the list...

Columbus...

The Jackets are talking to Tocchet and also may interview Gallant....I am also hearing Quinn as a possibility..

On Seattle...

Gallant and Tocchet, but UNTIL Brind'amour is officially extended in Carolina he is the favorite for Seattle.

On the Flyers...

Yes they have said they are sticking with AV...but there is a group which wants them to at least talk to Tocchet...

Still trying to figure out the reasoning behind dumping young(er) guys that produce for more picks/prospects or older more established players. At some point you need the entire team to actually be better and compete. Continually dumping the players that are producing just keeps you perpetually rebuilding.

At this point, I'm more intrigued by what the Hawks may do with one or more of the LTIR/retired contracts. Keep them, or trade them for a bit of cap flexibility?

Maybe reasoning around kubalik being possibly shop which imo won't happen is what does his next contract look like and can the hawks afford him plus dcat next contract look like. Plus dach and boqvist contracts are coming up. I m sure bowman and company have a plan for this next couple years. The rebuild is on the right direction. So we will all see what happens. If kubalik is traded better get something significant back or how do the hawks replace 25 to 30 goals.

Agree. Having a Havlat on a bad young team was helpful to the youth. Same with a Kaner.

Yep. If we can package Kubalik for a stud like Eichel, McJesus or other young talent stud D like a Jones, I'd do it. If not, keep him.

Trade Kane....WTF are you thinking? Saw a meme the other day that spoke volumes...Toews may actually have an illness of some sort but part of the issue is CLEARLY that he does NOT like Coliton...back to the meme, game had ended, and Toews has a nasty look on his face when close to Coliton...ignores him and continues to tap it out with his teammates. If anything, I would trade Toews. This past season was no worse than the one before with him in the lineup. That shows that his absence meant NOTHING to the end result. If he wants out, give it to him...was never worth 10.5 million a season to begin with. Toews may be the rah rah leader but Kane is the leader on the ice where it counts.

Unless both go on an absolute tear next year, both will be on very reasonable bridge deals. They will have to prove they can hold up for an entire season and produce like they are expected to.

I have absolutely no issue with paying Kubalik what he is due. He is 25, producing points, and is committed to improving his overall game (defensively and playmaking). Those are the type of players you keep and cultivate. If the entire team put the same work into perfecting their craft that Kane, ADB and Kubalik are, they would improve immensely and quickly.

One thing I would like to see that I haven't seen reported on is how the defensemen can work to grow their games in the offseason. ADB has worked on things like momentum/misdirection, changing his shot/angle, and creating openings in the defense to improve his game. What are the defensemen doing (or more to the point, what can they do)?

Why bother trading those contracts? TB and Toronto both showed it isn't that much of a hindrance to work around

I have to disagree with you. Toews is the leader of the team remember couple of year's ago when Kane was messing up and people wanted to trade him....it was Toews that kept everything going in the right direction. Yes Kane has grown up and I'm happy to have not traded him and has been a leader for this team especially with the younger guy's. Add Seabrook to the list of leadership that doesn't get the attention others do.
