Dots! You're killing me! Is it instant gratification or having patience?

(In my best Pat Foley voice) He's all over the place!

The logical side says patience, but watching kids like Makar or Heiskanen....

This is why i see so many GMs be their own worst enemy

For instance, who's going to back the truck load of money up to the Hamilton residence

If Hamilton does not sign with Carolina, it will be his 4th team in 10 years. Also, Hamiltion is right handed, unless you trade Murphy, then Bovquist becomes third pairing and Mitchell is in the A. Kind of a step back from the rebuild, and you still have a weak left side D. Hopefully if the Hawks shore up the D, it is on the left side. I can live with Murphy, Bovquist, Mitchell/Kalnyuk on the right side for now.

There are some enticing UFA's in 2022 also if the Hawks are ready, Klingberg, Adam Fox, Parayko, Seth Jones

I have nothing against Hamilton, but I'd hold off on signing any big UFAs this summer. Stan should wait until 2022 and target Barkov. Stan should back up the Brinks truck and do what it takes to land him.

Florida will have to dump Bob to sign him. Good luck with that!

Besides the continue development of young players what move Needs to happen so the hawks take that next step in the rebuild? Is It a signing a trade or something else. Pass on Hamilton and any other big name free agents hawks are not ready to do that at this juncture of the rebuild. but what trade would could happen or surprise us same with a signing? Thoughts and opinions are needed

I can see them looking to see what they can get for Kubalik. His contract is up after next season, and although still an RFA, could be looking for a significant raise over the $3.7 mil. he currently makes. I think the Hawks see him as a nice complementary piece, but don't picture him as a $6 mil. dollar (what ADB is getting) player.

Except the way dinky's contract is written he's going to get over $8 next time. But I agree, selling high on Kubalik may not be a bad thing I still don't think he gets you a top 10 pick back or even top 15 and that's a lot to pay a guy for third line. A $6m defense man would be better than any defense man we have.

A bit disappointed. They always seems to play up or down to the level of their opponent and that seems to have continued. Way more weird mistakes with the puck than they typically make.

Thank god Pesce and Skjei have stepped up the way they have or this series would be over already.

That Necas goal seemed to wake them up. Hopefully they've got their feet underneath them now and are ready to role because the next round is going to be a big step up.

- BINGO!

Agree- yesterday was the first time most of the D was aggressive in joining the rushes. Up until that point it was only Pesce.

Thanks Theo - Technically, I would not call Edmonton's last years defeat a playoff defeat, it was more a play-in game. Maybe McDavid can join Poile and be the greatest to never have one anything together.
Which fanbase would you rather be in, Chicago's or Edmonton's? Chicago has nowhere but up to go, Edmonton is who they are, they have the "best" player, and a top coach, but still cannot get to the next level.

- powerenforcer

Definitely a distinct difference between the play-in series and playoffs in 2020. I will update the blog so it refers to elimination from the postseason rather than playoffs.

Theo, On behalf of all the older male posters on the board please refrain from using the word 'limp" in future blog titles.

Duly noted. I don't want to know what ads were triggered by the use of that word in the title.

Great write-up Theo.

Yeah the addition of Hossa and Campbell put us over the top but we didn't get them until we were close. When we signed Campbell we were just on cusp, only missing the playoffs by 3 points or so (and which coincided with the dumping of Saavy early in that season). I still think we need at least one or two more high draft picks to compliment this group we have. At the point we started winning, we had #1 Kane, #3 Toews, #3 Barker, #4 Ladd, #7 Skille, which shows some picks pan out and others definitely don't.

What a waste in Edmonton with McJesus, just like Eichel in Buffalo. Both teams have had so many high picks over the last few years, Edmonton doing it worse than Buffalo. We should be happy the Hawks, like the Pens and Caps, did well with our string of high picks.

Thanks, ghost.

You bring up another good point about the timeline for when it may be ripe to obtain a high-end player via free agency once the rest of the roster is on the cusp of Cup contention, i.e. that may be the time a coaching change is entertained.

Colliton could be retained, though, if he also develops and grows stronger as a well-rounded head coach where he's not just good at development but can also make the right choices and motivate the players during a playoff chase and Cup hunt.

If he ends up being just a good development coach but so-so or worse at the other parts, then the front office seriously needs to consider a coaching change.

If anything, demote Colliton to an assistant so he can keep working on player development.

From colleague Wally Maz who does a great job documenting Blackhawks prospects:

Team Germany is taking every precaution on Reichel to run tests and verify whether or not he has a concussion.

According to Wally, Reichel took at least one shift in the 2nd then sat out the entire 3rd period.

Has there ever been an instance of a Head Coach moving back to assistant on the same team?

Calgary looking to reshapes their team. Kubalik and a 2nd for Hannifin?

Then replace Kubalik with NYR's Buchnevich. Send them Strome ((maybe uniting him with his brother will have positive effect), Zadorov for the toughness they desire, and another piece maybe Beaudin.

Not sure. Probably but also don't see that realistically happening. IMO, Colliton would want to explore options for a new head coaching gig elsewhere. I guess you never know.

Maybe, I think Yeo was promised the job. This is the opposite though. Taking a current head coach and replacing him, but keeping him on as an assistant, not taking an assistant and making them head coach.

both situations were highly unusual in my opinion. but being demoted from HC to bench or assistant coach would never be a good option

I have looked and can't find any instance in any sport where this occurred. A few where a HC retired and remained in an advisory role, but never as an assistant.
