While I agree that the defense needs to tighten up, it's easier said than done playing non-playoff teams like the Flyers and Sabres that themselves are essentially bringing all 5 every time they get the puck, and have thrown defense out the window becuase they have nothing to lose. It's hard for playoff teams to matchup against those ones with the same systematic approach to defense they typically use. When the playoffs start, defense will be a major component again by nature, and you won't see these shootouts (intentionally at least).

On a side note: Buffalo did a pretty good job on the Isles two games in a row before this one, so don't people knock what the Pens did to them as simply what happens when a good team plays a bad one. Buffalo either isn't as bad as their record says, or the Isles are just awful.

Absolutely, I couldn't agree more with your analysis. Add in the drop in intensity and you have what we have witnessed recently. The offense has been inflated and we need to temper expectations.

In the past month, eighteen games, we've played four games against playoff teams. Two of those were against Washington when both of us were a lock to make the post season.

As long as Jarry is healthy our goal tending will be fine. Defense is where we win or lose. The top six needs to remain healthy and continue their steady play.

Detroit made the best trade deadline deal and It wasn't even close. We shall see how much Pittsburgh benefits from grandpa Carter In the lineup In the playoffs.

I think me and Grinder were the only ones who were giving him any kinda credit before the last two or three weeks haha

I hope Rodrigues parlays this season into a mainstay on someone’s 4th line. He’s not all that great but he seems likable enough and tries hard.

Yeah incredibly shocked the Wings blogger said the rebuild was set back like three years from that. Y very clearly fleeced the Caps there.

I talked to my neighbor about the "Rust" series. He is the fire chief, was very impressed with how they do things. They bring a caterer in and eat very well. He was permitted to eat with production crew, along with the other volunteers.

The scene at the VFD building was a continuation from a scene from the Emlenton truck stop, off I-80. My neighbor asked one of the crew what was going on in the scene, he replied 'You don't want to know.' We figured that is just the standard answer to any question.

He was able to watch them film and it turned out to be a murder scene.

I thought that was interesting enough to share.

Is Jarry dealing with something or they're just resting him?

Hopefully our defense returns to where it was at a couple weeks ago. We're aren't getting out of the first round if we don't. Boston or the Islanders aren't going to let us fire at will on their back up goaltenders.

Very true. Ironically the Pens match up best against the Caps but that matchup is almost impossible at this point. Between the Islanders and Bruins the Islanders are the better matchup due to weaker goaltending and being less physical (both in relation to the Bruins - not in absolute terms) but the Islanders will win the series if the Pens' defense continues to play the way it has for the past week. The long rest will also hurt the Pens' offense and may cause it to be out of sync anyway. The Pens must go into the series thinking defense first and Letang has to play a less risky game.

Carter has shocked me so far. When the trade was made I didn't even know that he was still playing much less capable of playing at this level (I haven't follow much outside of our division for the past year+). He seems like a 2C playing as a 3C which makes the third line very potent. The icing on the cake is that the Flyers are still paying a small part of his salary (he is still on the contract he signed with them over a decade ago) .

Eddie O is the most biased national hockey broadcaster. He has a strong pro-Blackhawks/anti-Penguins bias and doesn't hide it well. Most of the others have a bias but at least do a good job hiding it. Eddie O should just do local Blackhawks' broadcasts.

Eddie O was pretty chafed after he was fired by the Pens. He definitely had a gripe about not being able to use MAF, but it turns out he was a sh!tty coach too. I think Craig Patrick woke up after a couple day bender and said.... "hey, Eddie sounds really smart on the broadcasts, Let's hire him!"

And Capitals - he was a Capital for several years too, although he is a Flyer at heart. The thing I notice most about him is the smile he gets on his face every time there is fights and other rough stuff.

Kinda shocked you like E Rod. Seems like not a very Grinder player.

As long as he’s not stapled to Sid like Simon he’s decent player.

Having Tanev return is going to be noticeable. Having a guy shot out of a cannon who never gives up on a play skating every 3rd shift makes a hell of a difference to the pace the team plays.

Considering his roots, I think Jones has always been fair to the Pens. I specifically remember one instance when Milbury was doing some anti-Pens rant and Jones literally rolled his eyes right in front of him. Just a natural reaction to one of Milbury's bombastic rants.

I don't miss Milbury. I never really minded Jones. He occasionally said some bonehead things.

I do actually like Kenny Albert. I think you always need the classic "straight man" in the mix. He looks like a toe though.
