I would swap out PLD for Scheifele and pull the trigger.

I do not think that Buffalo would want to get older and putting Scheifele in that trade becomes an overpay for Eichel.

I get mind boggled with how undervalued Scheifele is in this market. Laine was completely overvalued. It continually shocks me.

Agree with the Scheifele-Laine assessments.

Same goes with PLD. Undervalued! Right now he is kind of a Laurie Boschman type player, a 200-ft player, and I think the offense will come. Let's not forget he is youngest player on team on most nights. He'll be fine. What bothers me about PLD is his soft passes.

Man does team ever miss Nik Ehlers. This is Captain Obvious speaking. Any word on when he is due back, skating, etc?

Lines of:
Connor-Scheiuf-Wheeler
and
Copp/Stastny- PLD-Ehlers - and we can do some damage in the playoffs. Funny, but we could be out in four games - or go to the finals. Strange days indeed!

You would do better to trade PLD back to CLB for Jones!

He gets caved in against other teams top lines on the regular. If Buf wants a big change they get that and maybe Cozens can be their eventual 1c, Schieif becomes 1c for a year or two and gives way after. Jets get a better player, but have to work around his higher AAV.

With Eichel reportedly being very upset in Buffalo and wanting out, the Jets should make a major pitch for him this offseason. Scheifele is also a big fan of his game.

To BUF: PLD, 2021 first round pick, 2022 CBJ third rotund pick

To WPG: Jack Eichel

Sheifele is a top 10 centre in this league. He just doesn't have that one quality that really separates him like McD's speed, or Matthews shot. But you know what, Toews/Kopitar/Bergeron all fell into that same category and all they did was win. Hopefully Scheifs follows that trend of being an unreal 200' player who finds himself a cup.

Name me one forward not named Ehlers or Copp that does not get caved in on a regular basis! Makes you wonder if its the players or the systems.

It’s probably a bit of column A and column B for player vs. system. And bringing up the wingers isn’t really relevant when trading centers for centers.

The problem you have identified is not unique to Scheifele, so how come you are holding him more responsible than Lowry, Stastny, Dubois, and Thompson?

I’ve watched every game....we haven’t instigated the physical part of hockey in one single game.
The opposition feels free to hit, face wash, punch et etc our star players. We stand and watch... watch!!!!!!

Down 2-0 we don’t get aggressive, try to spark something....nothing.

Will be 4-5 playoff games and then done

Paul Maurice loser of 8 out of 9 games. The man has the best job in the world. He's ineffective most of the time but keeps his job.

Probably cause those guys are all bottom six talents, Scheifele is the 1C and 1C's are rightly held to a higher standard.

That’s with you assuming that the other 1C’s are all excellent two way forwards, which for the most part they are not. McDavid for example constantly has poor possession numbers and his coach does an excellent job shielding him from playing against other teams number 1 centers, something that our coach does not!

Umm doesn't Lowry play against other teams first lines sometimes so Scheifele doesn't have to?

According to the Quality of Competition stats on Puck IQ, and the proverbial “eye test”, Lowry has rarely played against other teams top lines. Maurice has done a good job sheltering him. Lowry might come on at the end of another teams tops lines shift. Rarely has he ever gone toe to toe with another teams top line for an entire shift.

I always thought the Lowry shutdown line narrative was overblown though I've noticed him out against other teams top lines at times this season and doing fairly well.

So Schiefele needs sheltering to be effective then?

I disagree, Maurice always starts the game trying to match top line vrs top line then we fall behind, when that fails and he switches to the Lowry line to keep it close. Lowry plays as much vrs top lines as shief does

When mcdavid and shief are on the ice at the same time it’s 12-2 goals in favour of Edmonton.

It does seem strange though that when Maurice has home ice advantage where he can utilize last change and get the line match ups he wants the Jets have a losing record.
Is that a coincidence or is the line matching narrative overblown?

That’s not what the advanced statistics say. They consistently state that Lowry gets caved in against elite competition and for the most part does his best when playing against other teams third and fourth lines.

In fact, Lowry is having his worst possession year ever this year. The only reason he seems to be doing good is due to his abnormally high PDO, which essentially measures puck luck, is what is making him look good.

They would way worse if we put one of our other centers against McDavid. Essentially, so what if Scheifele does not do well against Mathews and McDavid. Both guys are generational.

I find it funny that Jets fans concentrate on Scheifele’s performance against those two while essentially ignoring his performance against the other 29 teams top centers.

Not really. As I mentioned in the post above, not many centers in the league have the ability to shutdown McDavid and Mathews. It just seems odd that’s what some posters are basing their belief that Scheifele is bad defensively on.

It would also be nice if someone were to name me a center that has been successful at shutting down both McDavid and Mathews. I am sure that Scheifele was not on the ice for all of Mathews 40 goals and McDavid’s 100 points this season.

Simple, he suggests he wants to be among the elite centers in the league and has held the 1c spot here for several years. Also leads in TOI, I believe, so that’s my reasons why.
